Pardon me for coming in late and I have to agree Pap-smear is insulting, derogatory and unnecessary.

Especially when the very word Pap is an insult in itself, the literal definition of Pap is:

synonyms: soft food, mush, slop, pulp, puree, mash
derogatory
reading matter or entertainment that is worthless or lacking in substance.

synonyms: trivia, pulp (fiction), garbage, rubbish, nonsense

Think of it this way, over reliance on P-a-P means your strategy is suitable for a baby and your character choice is lacking in worth or substance.

I don't see this as an assault on one's right to tell a joke, juvenile or otherwise.

This is a reasonable request asking for people to think about the other people around them in a public setting. That's all it is.

She even went as far as explaining her reasons as to why it bothered her, which I'm sure many were not aware of in the first place.

Oldlady has been posting here for a while and she always has good insight and fun commentary on the various subjects/conversations that are brought up.

I have never seen or heard her try to push an agenda or assert her politics on anyone.

Civility and respecting others shouldn't be all that difficult to understand.
As I said, The way I see it, it's just a plea for basic, good old fashioned good manners.

You unfortunately don't get to decided who is insulted by what.

We can, however, collectively establish when someone is unreasonably sensitive.

And yet, that's not even close to what has happened.

And even then, going "lighten up" isn't going to accomplish something.

Years ago, on a forum for a MMO, a woman raised issue with people saying "get raped," casually. I disagreed with her objection but expressed an understanding of her position and tried to explain why (adolescent) men wouldn't think twice about saying it. Because I was kind, she didn't change how she felt about the phrase but said she wouldn't think less of people that used.
