My guess on the distribution question is as follows.
The set contains 96 figures, similar to a couple of the previous smaller expansions (i.e. Uprising, Dragon's Gate). Those sets had 12 uniques. Sorcery will probably have 12 uniques, 4 of which will be the mercenaries. The cases will likely remain at 48 boosters each, with 8 mercenaries in every 3 cases, in place of the uniques.
Assuming I'm correct, the odds of pulling a mercenary will be better than pulling an Avatar from Dark Riders, since they were one figure in 191 in a case.
I think that this set will be very good on many levels, but may also raise some hackles when it hits the streets.
Although I would prefer it, I am guessing that in order to make this set a "must have", there will be a new type of symbol on the base that only allows figures from this set to use the spell books. This would bug me, well, until I started buying them! A nice compromise would be to allow non Sorcery guys to equip one shot spell items, like scrolls, but not the spell books themselves.
My BPR dwarves definitely got a little better, with their mighty :mi: stat. Remember though, that we have the Galeshi in our ranks, so the option for major spellcasters abound!
An excellant direction for the game. These expansions seems like exactly that..making the game larger and more varied, and nt just producing more of the same. It might be tough to keep up with the learning curve, but I feel I can still bring my 2.0 base set army to the field, and have fun all the same, so just a smattering of Sorcery for me!
I hope that they factor in the :wand: attack type for spellcasting, so that all of the obvious figures that should be among the powerful spellcasters in the game, like Anunub or the Galeshi Sorcerer.
And hey - names for the previewed figures are up! It is Rowan, and isn't Kastali the Oracle of Rokos?
Mage-King Alment Lan was one of my favorite original Heroes from Dungeons! It's good to see him still kicking (even if he's kickin' it from a floating wheelchair).
I seem to be at a loss, Wiz Kids just released dark riders and already talking of a new set???? It is making it difficult for us poor players too keep up with everything.
I'm happy to see Alment Lan back, he was in my Dungeons starter and I've always liked him, even if he's never survived (I'm not very good at Dungeons apparently).
WHat's funny is that I remember Draddog (or one of the other developers, maybe) stating in an interview that Alment Lan was the name of his D&D character from way back, and that he pulled strings to get him in as an MK character. Cool to see him do it again. And this time looking wicked cool.
New figures and expansions are always great (so long as there not too close together). The problem here is more chase figures that their not even saying will be 1 per case. i saw quotes odds of 1 in 72. that gets very expensive to run them all down.:(
I like the idea of the chase figures.....it works on several letters.
I know when I pulled one of the Avatars this time (although I never got any of the original Horsemen), I was still excited about pulling it.
It is Topps, and being that I came from the sportscard/memorabilia world, the really good chase stuff is what keeps many people buying. These aren't incredibly rare and less rare than the red based ultra-rare figures in SportsClix. Most of you do not care about SportsClix, but we are not talking about $200 figures here.....they are common enough to get one, but something that is really neat if you happen to get one.
Admit, half the fun for most of us is seeing what we get out of a booster. Busting boosters is fun, and that's why we have threads about it on this site.
In the sportscard world, you have card rarities that run 1 in the entire world. It was tough enough when it was 1:100 ratio, but then the chase thing took over. Some folks in the sportscard world didn't like the "chase" factor either, but many did and everybody was excited if the pulled one.....no matter what they originally felt about it.
Since a lot of you would never play an avatar, or even expensive uniques in an army build anyway, let us ignorant players have a little fun too, by chasing around after exclusive figures. The game has to offer something for everybody who plays, not just the smart people, who are the top tier players.
Just FYI, I hardly ever pull anything valuable, including uniques, but it is still fun trying. In the eyes of some of you, if you pull a chase/rare figure, it is "useless" or "not right for competitive builds" anyway, so fleece the rest of us for some big money or figures in trade.
Due to the lack of single faction play anyway, there will only be a handful of figures that some people will deem "useful" anyway....no matter if it is a * non, unique, or ultra-rare.
I am not sure what Sorcery is bringing to the table, but it may be too complicated for a dumb collector like me. However, I will use what I can from the set..... Sounds to me like the Hero and Mercenaries subfactions will be included, or built in to this set somehow......Then look for the MS to hit big, and these Heros and Mercs will be used in the new Dungeons game.
I guess what I'm seeing is levels on the combat dials, or at least a starting marker, with clicks going in both directions.....(like in SportsClix-Hot and Cold clicks)......My only true predicition.
The Draconum is obiously going to become the most prized piece in this set. He looks awsome. The angel looks to be from my favorite faction, the Elven Lords. I'l looking forward to getting him and any other EL figs. All of them look great though. I'll also go after the solonavi fig and any others of them. I love putting together teams of Sol/EL. Dont win very often, but there my 2 favorite factions.
I do hope they premiere at Gencon. But apx. a week after Gencon MW Falcon's Prey comes out. So that might be the one that wizkids shows off them. I do hope I'm wrong, I would love to see them show off both and let everyone buy unlimited numbers of boosters. That would be great.
DRooooooooooooooooooooooooooolll...
Almost makes me want to completly dump the quickly crumbling MW for this... But I will wait for Falcon's Prey and give Wizkids another chance...
Wow... And I thought Riders introduced new mechanics into the game... 10 new subfactions, so
2 Each to the Draconum and Solonavi
1 Each to the other major 6. (Orcs, Crusaders, EL, EF, Revolutionaries, Atlanteans)
Unless of course they reintorduce Shyft and Mage Spawn with subfactions.
I just want to point out that the chase Bounty Hunters being 1 in 72 means there is one per case, but you then divide by 4 for your chances of pulling any PARTICULAR Bounty Hunter. So, you need to buy 4 cases to have a decent chance of getting all 4. Odds are you'd get at least one duplicate, and with my luck it'd be the one no one wants.

Remember this set has a relic that say a Mage Spawn can wield it. They're setting up for MAge Spawn. Also there is a relic that affects :Fist: damage types, who has a :fist: damage type?????
All Titans have the fist damage type. That's what makes them titans. :D
And how can MS have subfactions? They're not even a real faction. MS don't have faction symbols after all... they're just not that organized. :) I'm betting Apopolype is the 10th, as they're the only other real faction. Either that, or it's only the 5 that already have subfactions, each gets 2 more... Or maybe the EF will get 2, since they have 1 less than everyone else.
