I worry about the color of the cost on the PTs and Locations they are yellow like the equipment and the characters. Why would they do this it easy to explain the grey was threshold and the yellow was recruit cost. God dont go and screw that up please!
Why thanks, I think I am clever too! Glad you saw my point.
Do people here have some weird hatred for WOW cards? Nevermind the game, but the actual cards? The art on those cards are larger and more consistantly stunning than VS. They even turned the cards into buyable art sets because the work is solid.
And Stu had put up a link to Marvel Masterpiece which is entirely made up of recycled Vs. art which is being sold as a trading card set. And unlike the WoW set, it isn't being marketed to the people that play the game already, but instead, being marketed just as a trading card set that people buy for the art, even if they have never heard of Vs. system.
So the quality of art in either game isn't in question.
Basically, the cards now get 'widescreen' format. However, the solicitations until this point have not been widescreen, thus there is a loss of art in the cards that have their picture reused, ala Savage Beatdown. [In fact, the EAs extend the art VERTICALLY, not horizontally.]
it's going to be a bit annoying having to explain to people why Activate is not Activate now and a little "turn your card" thingy
Really?
So instead of saying "Activate means to take a ready card and exhaust it" you have to mean "turn the card to the side thingy means turn the card to the side".
Some of the changes are a little odd, like the whole sun/moon thing ... but the 'tap' symbol is a simplification. The word "activate" is a keyword meant to represent an action ... the 'tap' symbol is one of the few 'perfect' symbols in that it explains what it does in much less space than anything else.
Comparing the word "activate" that STILL requires a definition, to a symbol that most people can probably figure out what it means without any help ... no contest.
Most of the other stuff ... change for the sake of change. With the team name/symbols ... there would be some issues with team ups and using older characters, that would require you to basically memorize which symbol is for which team affiliation. Although hopefully card art would make it clear which team affiliation the card is for anyway.
The concealed optional ... it's more room for other text ... once we see a concealed character and a concealed-optional character it will be better to see. If it's easy to tell by the border, than the symbols will be basically irrelevant, but a 'reminder' none the less. Having flight and range next to the attack makes sense ... they determine whether or not you are able to attack.
So far, it's just aesthetic change ... the activate symbol will make things easier for new players, the team symbol might make things harder for everyone though ... other than that, we'll need to wait to see what the OTHER changes are. [Although the 'concealed not a keyword, therefore you are still concealed when stunned' thing is a good addition]

Meh, I just don't see the need for this at all, a new card format isn't going to bring new players into the game.
Perhaps not on it's own.
However, one way to try to get people to try out Vs. that haven't tried it in the past [or DID try it, and made a pass] is to show that it is going in a new direction. A very CLEAR way of showing that the game is having a 'new beginning' or a 'fresh start', etc ... to tell players "Now is the time for you to give Vs. a second chance" ... is to have a CLEAR change.
Now, the card art is basically marketting. The real test is to see what ELSE is different and whether that is something that will attract and retain new players.
No one is going to start playing Vs. because of the changes to the art. No one is going to stop playing Vs. because of the changes to the art.
HOWEVER, it might be the lure required for someone to sniff the bait. Something new attracts the eye ... even if it isn't actually new.
What was the size of the cards for the VS art set?
They are normal sized cards, with the art completely covering the card. So they are mostly vertical. Think a Vs. card, but with just pure art. Except the corners aren't rounded.
Thanks for the info. My point was that the WOW art that is packaged was framable sized. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see some of the VS cards marketed as 6X8 pieces of art as well. Just most WOW cards have carried really good art, while VS, especailly in the earlier sets, had art that was less consistant.
But enough getting off topic. I don't care about the haters, I still think the new cards look better without the team affiliation strip on the side taking up so much space.
I don't know if it was posted yet in this thread, but I don't wanna scan 7 pages of posts when I just need a quick answer.
Is it just me, or did it look like the Plot Twists and Locations had the same colour for costs as Characters and Equipment? Or am I just colour-blind? Or are they changing Thresh-hold costs in this set too? Agggh, they should have covered rules before they covered card layout.
Also, as a side note, why did they HAVE to replace the word Activate with a wanna-be Tap symbol?
1. The game is still VS.
2. Wider art is better (EAs will be bombastic now). I never liked how much room the affiliations took up.
3. I also don't like the separation of ATK and DEF but I can see why they did it.
4. I don't understand the hating on WoW... hopefully this may get some WoW players into VS... cross-pollination is always good.
5. Kinda looks like the Alter-Ego cards.
6. Doesn't this help make getting reprints not so bad? I wouldn't mind 4 of those Savage Beatdowns.
So it looks like UDE did decide to "change the face of VS". Seems like even many of the people who didn't want them to do it like the new look. All you other haters... if this stops you from buying/playing VS... have fun with your other CCG.
It's just you. The plot twist "banner" on the top of the card is normal blue, green for the location, and red for characters.
Closer look, he's right. He was asking about the color of the cost, not the banner. All costs are printed in gold now, instead of the light blue/gray that used to differentiate threshold costs from recruit costs

Exactly. So, there must be a new rule or SOMEthing to deliniate the way of paying to play certain cards.
I think he was referring to the color of the threshold numbering vs character recruitment number. If they're the same color, explaining the difference to new players will be slightly harder.
As if explaining why there's two entirely different card layouts in your Golden Age deck wouldn't be hard enough to explain as is...
