I think he suffers from A4 syndrome, in his mind Arty always hits and is indeafeatable unless you use the same pieces.
Well let him believe what he wants.
Unless he desribes what he meant with his word arty I cannot comment. As such 3 to 4 pieces of A4's will not be seen anytime soon. But Hadurs and LT can pick some of that slack.
I wonder if Unrestricted will get more populair or less populair as it will allow all those broken pieces.
Inf. Arty has been my favourite type of arty since mortar teams. So I can not call them "new" arty.
The Paladin is still pretty good but since mobility was boosted, they do seem like a hefty point investment.
Against my initial sentiments, I have come to respect and like the Hadur in fact. Its accuracy is pretty good thanks to all the Improved Targeting so whilst it's drifting, very often it's drifting where you want it! Sometimes moving away from the token is the worst thing you can do with those babies!! Most importantly they are also fast enough and agile enough to serve as a tank at a push. Not a very good one but it does mean that they have more of a role than the pure artillery tanks do.
I'm all for pieces having secondary roles that boost their usefulness when your initial plans go awry.
That's why the TTL are so good. They make good formation buddies as well as great artillery. As artillery none come close to the Steiner one. Not only does it hit a lot but it's drift is frighteningly predictable. I don't think I've ever missed with one.
Of course you can't use them too often or everyone holds a Sub-Zero or Caustic card back for when they play you!! :)
Little something that I've been playing around with.
BR Solitaire w/JP and E.Camo
Liao Paladin x2
BR Saxon
BR Thunderbird BA
BR Oni BA
BR Ravager BA
Liao Combat Tech x2 (1 in Saxon)
Liao ATV x3
Have had pretty good success running this thing. Even expensive dual arty can be usefull. Overall hardened armor can give it pause but the Solitaire is so fast if they have any kind of minimum range, its up under it before they know it. I've got a variation for when Kelly is available and the ATVs retire, which makes it run even faster. 2 repair options makes them the target but by making them contend with dual arty and the solid Solitaire, I usually end up splitting their focus. The choices are either take on the support and fight through the arty or take on the Mech only to have it runaway and get repaired.
The questions is what kind of missions would run best with it? I've got my own choices but looking to see what an outsider might think they'd have a tough time with.
Couple of reasons. Cost is one of the them. It allows me to fit enough good quality units in over a quantity of average units. The other is the Solitaire, while a great unit is not going to be able to stand toe to toe and duke it out with the plethora of Heavy and Assaults that are oh so common. From what I've seen, the Solitaire is deadly when striking from as unexpected direction. Once the pieces are in motion with the arty, the Solitaire haunts, taunts and hits whenever the target is least expecting it. What I like to do with an E. Camo Mech is place it in a position for a Mech, up in its heat dial, to AO it just get a shot at it. Its such a tease for a target. If you can hit it you better knock it out otherwise steel rain and a repair drop with a 9 attack value are there for the answer. Regardless the Mech is rolling for heat, ammo explosions and shutdown when played correctly.
Here is an idea I got partly off the CNC Strategy Thread that I am slowly trying to make my own.
Vet CNC Nova Cat - 212
-> Alberto Dejesus - 38 (recruited)
-> Experimental Pulse - 37
Sabertooth Shadow Cat - 159
-> Matt D. Lossey - 37
CNC Bishop - 39
-> CNC Vet T-Birds x3 - 63
CNC Scout ATV 14
Total= 599 points
One question I have is which version of Matt D. Lossey should I use?. I was thinking about using the Elite version of the T-Birds, but I am not sure if I even have 3 of them (I will have to look when the kids are alseep tonight ;) ). Please let me know what you think of this army and how I could possibly improve it. I am hoping to try it (or something similar to it) out at the next 600 tourny we are having on January 8th.

I strongly suggest to lose the exp. pulse. You wont need it.
Take the L-027 the +1 Att. is prime.
The points freed up leave you with 38 points take 2 extra CNC ATV's.
Upgrade at least 1 T-Bird to elite the pulse rulezzZ. you might take 3 of em.
Problem is what about the remaing 8 points if you want to stay CNC pure well that is a hard puzzle, you could take the elite CNC 5 points and an extra elite T-Bird.
By choosing to be CNC pure you are restricted and lose out in Ballestic. Then again your have better range.
You will fear Shiro's. And a storming Shrike.
The rest you could handle on range alone.
You need a min. of 3 atv's to gain the tactical advantage. Actually i would use at least 7. But that is a complete rebuilt.
I won't have to worry about anyone playing CJF at my venue as I am/was the only one that did ( until recently). As for the threat of a Shiro, that is quite possible. there is at least one guy that comes that I never know if he's going to play RotS/Liao or almost pure HK. What might someone suggest for a CNC/HK army that could possibly battle a Shiro or a RHDM? Anyone?
Hey guys, this thread's gonna get shut down *sniff -- anothe one bites the dust...*, so go ahead and move the discussion over to the new, improved thread with the slightly re-written intro post that nobody ever reads!
