And one of my only complaints about Gencon.....LACK OF FREAKIN COVERAGE!!!!!
I know we're getting pics and things from people there, but as far as actual tournament coverage, it's next to nothing. The only reference to Gencon on the Heroclix.com page is an article for the Street Fighter tourney.
Out of all the games I've played, Heroclix has had the WORST coverage. When you go to a convention, you should let provide coverage. It was done for all the WOTC games I played and Upper Deck (for all their other failings as a company) easily had the best coverage out of any game I've ever played. When they had an event (which was at least once a month), they had updates about what was played and about who made it to the next round with deck lists.
I guess it's just frustrating to go from that to the no coverage that Wizkids currently provides.

So I was thinking, what promo pieces are your favorites? On my desk, I have FCBD IO Batman and NGN CD Superman sitting and looking awesome. I still think those two sculpts rival all others in quality and dynamics (and they both look very similar to the WF sculpts). What promo's are your favorites and why?
Hypertime promo Batman. It was the first Batman and the first DC character I got (years after it was released), his top click is still good today, and the sculpt is great.
I like a few. I don't have anything displayed right now (and most of what I would display would be customs I've bought). I'd put the AV Silver Surfer and Clown Prince of Crime out of figures I still have left.

I think I still have one of those Batman and the Promo Spidey sitting around somewhere.

In the final few minutes I had to act or just pass on the day I fished out and threw together a Defenders team for today's event:
SI Dr. Strange w/ Brilliant Tactician (felt a little cheesy, but it's fitting for him and the only Feat I used.)
SI Namor
SI Clea
SN E Valkyrie
SN Kyle Richmond
...and as it was Golden Age I took advantage to bring the soda machine into play.
Skipping to the end, I won all three matches, only losing Kyle in the third one, and came away with Successful Dirk Anger, which I'll most likely use as trade material -- I don't care enough about the character to want to use him on a team, so I haven't even looked at his dial.
The team that gave me the most trouble was in the third match, when I was up against Danger, Super Adaptoid and three Adaptoids, with Nanoarmor and some other feats on the high end, and Camouflage on Super Adaptoid and one of the Adaptoids. That was by far the longest match, playing that through to the final player after time was called. I lost Kyle buty managed to KO all but one, last Adaptoid.
Dice and inexperience among some of the other players definitely went in my favor. The first match was against someone who didn't know how to use his Nightcrawler well and I think he and one or two friends came in with a few misconceptions from home games, as when he tried to have Nightcrawler teleport Wolverine out, drop him off, return Nightcrawler to his hiding spot -- and have Wolverine charge on the same turn. Nice guy -- really, all of the ones I spoke with today were -- and it was a learning experience for them.
krusticlese added various prizes into the mix so everyone got something to take home, be it a zodiac key, cap shield. Foom finger or a laminated map.
All in all a good time. I was glad I made that extra push in the final minutes to go; it would have been so easy to blow it off.
