I'm impressed. You can't go wrong with making uniques more obtainable. (...unless they make even more Arnim Zolas... ) And the idea that future sets are going to be more theme specific is just outright cool. Best of all, if the theme of the next set is indeed 'Armor Wars", then that means we're going to get a new ( and hopefully improved; I'm crossing my fingers) figure of 616 Iron Man.
All the stuff regarding the approved play and the tourney scene doesn't really affect me much and certainly isn't going to entice me to start coming back to WK tournaments, but I'm impressed all the same.

Looks like Wizkids really is finally trying to take the game in the right direction! I'm excited about:
*More maps!
*More thematic-focused play!
*Iron Man themed set!
Ok, that last one was more of a relief of the set's theme than a good measure of the game's direction! Still, I'm pleasantly surprised Wizkids is taking steps to capture the fun comics feel of the game again. We'll see if it's enough, but more maps with more detail and well defined terrain is a VERY big deal. The maps in Heroclix are one of the things that had disgusted me about the game's growth over the last several years. Now, it sounds like Wizkids is taking a page from WOTC's map book...which is a good thing.
As far as distribution in boosters go and increasing the chances of pulling uniques, I'm still not sure if I'll go the booster route or just turn to the secondary market for what I want. Money will still be an issue, even if odds at pulling uniques get better.
Truth. Justice. Honor.
If we want them in our world we need to cultivate them in ourselves.

This series of announcements was awesome. I don't know why so many here seem to have had difficulty getting their questions through. I didn't have any problems.
Earlier in the day, when the chatroom was first set up, I was able to p2p BrotherMagneto in the chatroom. Later, when the moderated chat started, I couldn't. I wonder why . . .
I'm thrilled about the scenario play - finally my venue can get a break from the cheese and force the players to actually DO something remotely related to the comic characters instead of just picking the best and playing with them...
That's inches so the number of squares will be 24x16, i.e. 8 squares shorter on one side. Also the maps will only have terrain on one side - the other side will be just a plain grid.
I suppose the main reason for the reduction in size is to help fit the maps onto a standard table. But making them one-sided seems lame and gives the first player less choice.
I like the increased frequency of uniques - should eliminate the long dry spells that I've had in the past - it's really annoying if you open over 20 boosters and don't get a single unique.
Altogether, I'm still not sure that the announcement makes me want to hug Brother Magneto but maybe that's my British reserve...
1. There can only be one LE redeemable to a household. And they have to send a receipt to obtain it.
2. Report them to WizKids. They will keep your identity anonymous and investigate the venue. I am sure WizKids will take this very personally if it turns out to be true.
Yeah, because lets pretend that it would be sooo incredibly difficult for a store to fake thier OWN receipt and then just have them sent to different addresses, and nobody being the wiser.....
This will happen plenty...I don't expect ANY of the mail in slips to go unused, by hook or by crook.
The thing is, this special collectors edition doesn't make the game cheaper for me.
I usually buy a case on line and spend about $225.
Now if I can get the same almost comeplete REV set plus 8 uniques from 1/2 a case, then hey cool, I save about $110. Also, the secondary market prices on the 4 U's I will need will go down, so I save money there too.
If the Brix figure is somebody new or a new sculpt, I will want it. I don't usually care about LE's unless they are an unavailable chjaracter, like Ant Man.
So.....I then have to buy a brix from a regular store, eating up the $110 I saved on buying half the case. of course, then I should have another 4 uniques to trade and finish my set, so I am actually getting more, but I'd rather just end up spending less.
However, I do realize WK employees like to eat as much as I do, so in the end I am happy that laying out the same amount of cash is going to get me more kewlness, and less garbage.
See, I''m doing MY part to save the environment....
[quote=Bluebeard]Now, in a way I'm a little miffed since I really enjoyed the collectibity aspect of the game. Now that it's going to become "collecting for dummies" with a 1:3 unique ratio, I won't be as excited when I do pull a unique. /QUOTE]
boo efffing hoo.......
For every player like you, there are a hundred who are just gonna be happy not to have to go 8, 16, 24, or more booster with no uniques while getting annilhilated by teams fulla them.......
Are any of the people who 'enjoy the rarity' of the uniques people who buy a few boosters at a time and usually never get a break? Or are they the people who buy by the case and sell the extras on eBay?
Well since it appears that every 12 booster will be shrink wrapped as a brick. I think a brick is the smallest amount that would be sent. If a store was to only get half a case, he would be sent 2 bricks. Since they are packaged like that in China, they probably will not be broken down any further. I think quarter cases will be the lowest common denominator for shipment.
This is actually not true unless WK makes a change- the major distributors that I am aware of will break cases, and if a store orders 10 boosters, he's gonna get 10 boosters.
That is the major issue- every Brick and mortar store I know of always has to limit sales upon release date....usually to between 3 and 6 boosters, in order for 3 or 4 guys not to clean them out.
So, can a guy get ahold of one of the brix certs and send in COMBINED receipts for 12 boosters? if so, that will make competition getting the cert pretty high.
If not, it could backfire on initial sale for the product.....
So what happens when the retailer increases his order, gets his normal tiny alotment, doesn't sell them single booster very quickly(because everyone is waiting for the whole brix) and then later decided upping his order was a mistake?
I am starting to wonder if this 'brilliant' idea was thought through.......
