For those following the "ethics of running away" thread yesterday:
Last night, I played a bye round against one of the more stratgic players. He had brought a SHIELD team (I played) and a Police team (he played). 300 points, nobody over 60 points.
Every time one of us would reposition, the other would say "You're turtling! You're running away!" It was fun. It was also fun because, as it usually it with him, it was a thoughtful and strategic match. Also, I think the average attack role was a 5 (for both of us).
I think it's a funny thread.
So many people who don't want to play a strategy game and instead want to play a dice rolling game.
The fact that it was happening to both of us made it hilarious rather than tragic. I've never seen so many 3's rolled. Only one crit miss though, and one crit hit. But barely anything over a 6 other than that.
My opponent made 3 Shape Change rolls in a row with a 6, though-- we joked that he'd do better if he only rolled on die to attack.
Eh, thread got WAY too binary for my liking. There are more than two ways to play the game.
Agreed, which is way I posted a few scenarios/conditions. People seemed to keep lumping "run in the final moment, when the tourney is at stake" with "playing like an ####### from round one, even in a 'fun' match." Meh.
Ugh...just was on ebay and found somebody trying to sell a Superman OP kit for $350
Well, I never like to see that kind of thing, tho' maybe for a different reason than other folks.
Don't know how my fellow Ogres feel, but...
Personally, I'm glad to see OP kits hit the marketplace --- before, during or after the intended tourneys. I don't get outraged (the older I get, the harder I try to pick my spots more carefully for outrage) or even bothered. Besides, I'm hardly in any position to throw stones.
I don't play in tournaments much. On the rare occasions when I do, playing in three Swiss rounds inevitably exposes me -- usually sooner than later -- as somebody who's not particularly skillful except at being a slacker in keeping up with changes in the rules.
That said, I play for fun, laughs and having a good time with people whose company I enjoy --- friendly games in every respect. Above all, I don't want to sign on for three (or more) rounds which pretty much assures me of having to play at least one unfriendly or overly competitive person whom I'd never play, if left to my own devices.
And THAT said...I gotta admit: I DO like many of the LEs that are produced. I KNOW they're intended as prizes -- I get that -- but I'm glad that they can be found for sale so that they're available to guys like me.
I don't see this as buying somebody else's combat medal, nor do I view it as akin to buying a spelling bee trophy after the fact or securing one prior to the competition.
For one thing, there's a utility factor --- like a refrigerator.
If I wanted to buy a refrigerator -- one with special features that had been produced as an exclusive item earmarked for winning contestants on a certain game show -- I wouldn't worry about whether the show had taken place. I would just be glad that this refrigerator was in the marketplace and being offered for sale to somebody with little chance of winning one.
Obviously, the chances of being able to win a clix LE are much better --- if only because the access to participation is so much greater; anybody who cares to show up at the local venue can compete. But not everybody wants to engage in the competition, for whatever the reason(s).
So, when it comes to OP kits being for sale on eBay, it's just like the refrigerator: my only concern is the price (with no worries on having to be home to accept delivery!).
On the matter of this example...Holy Crow...$350??????!!!!?????
Well...good luck with that. Which is pretty much what I said when I saw the early asking prices for the most recent con exclusives.
On my own recent tour of eBay, however, I was pleased to see that somebody had multiples of the Horsemen, Wonder Woman and Ms. Marvel exclusives and each was going for a BIN of fifty bucks. Now THAT'S what I call progress!
As always...just my two cents.
Tim Burton was right: "A square jaw does not a Batman make." Steve Buscemi as the next Batman! Luke Perry as Joker! Let's make it happen!

Possibly fun/infuriating twist: a Mind Control-heavy team predicated on KOing a figure, then retreating and using MC attacks to force the opponent to retreat.
"Oh, you wanna come hit me? Morgan Le Fay says you want to go back to your starting area."

Given that I'm buying a case this time, I'm putting myself in the running for a chase figure (or two if they are one per brick like some have suggested). Combine that with the fact that the chases are of a character I'm actually interested in and that makes it time for...
COMMANDERCOOL CHASE FIGURE ASSESSMENT
Superman 055 (Earth One Superman)
Playability:
10/10
I don't think I'm exaggerating when I say that this Superman is top-tier playable, at least in the current metagame. Of course this is speculation, because I obviously haven't used him yet, but smacking someone for five penetrating damage and then getting better is excellent, and for not many points. Top that off with the fact that he's named Superman, and therefore will set off the Reign Of The Supermen trait, and he looks to me like one of the best in the set. It's unfortunate that a chase figure is going to be this playable, but it's true.
Sculpt:
7/10
I haven't seen a not so blurry picture of the sculpt yet, but it looks fine. It's not terribly exciting, but it is workable and sort of iconic I suppose. Nothing really wrong with it, but it's not really impressive either.
Appropriateness:
7/10
As an alternate universe Superman it's probably better for him to be in a chase slot than a regular set slot, but he's not my top pick for alternate universe Supermans. He's a recent character, so I would rather have seen this slot taken by one of the older Superman versions that people have been asking for since the game began.
Total: 24/30
----------
Superman 056 (Son of Darkseid)
Playability:
7/10
He's got high attack, good keywords, and a killer trait. He can slap people for a decent amount of penetrating damage, and his damage output only goes up with time. Lots of reducers, although his defense isn't great. His trait wants to be paired with as many other attackers as possibly, and he's probably too many points for that to be viable a lot of the time. Flurry pairs hilariously with the trait though, even if he doesn't have room for others. It's the lack of Indomitable that hurts him the most, I think, but you could make him work. Not at the top of the pile for figures in his point bracket, but good enough.
Sculpt:
9/10
This is the chase sculpt that I've seen the clearest picture of, and I think he looks great. Really intimidating and cool. He'll look good leading an army of Parademons. Kind of wish he had his helmet off, but it is a cool helmet.
Appropriateness:
9/10
This was a much-requested figure, certainly not a must-have, and it's flashy enough to make an exciting chase. There are very few figures I would rather have seen in his place.
Total: 25/30

Kal 058
Playability: 5/10
Great defense, clearly. Cool special powers. Overall, though, his damage output is pretty low for the points. Indomitable would have been appropriate and so helpful, but he never even has Willpower. His trait means he wants a lot of buddies with the Armor keyword, but they tend towards being expensive, and so is he. The fact that he flies means he can carry around an Armor buddy while bumping up their defense, but again most Armor figures can't be carried. If Super Strength and Blades were flipped, or if he had a couple of eleven attack clicks, or Indomitable I would like him more, but appears to be much more of a novelty than an exciting dial.
Sculpt: 8/10?
I haven't seen a picture of him yet that isn't pretty blurry, but the ones I have seen look real nice. The character looks cool, and the blurry sculpt looks similar to the character, so pending a better picture I think I like it.
Appropriateness: 8/10
Again there are a few figures that probably deserved this spot more, but I don't mind one more obscure alternate version in each batch of chases. The character has enough cool stuff about him to make for a fun dial and would never be given a slot in a regular set, so while I would rather have seen Red Son or Speeding Bullets Superman here I like this choice a lot too.
Overall: 21/30

So right now it looks like I'm hoping to pull a Son of Darkseid Superman, but I wouldn't mind an Earth One Superman. Kal would be a clear third pick for me, but I still like him fine.

I didn't read it. I meant to, because I like Superman, but I never got around to it. I recall hearing otherwise when it came out, but I'm not real surprised.

I'm probably a bit harsher when it comes to quality to other people. The story is largely forgetable, insofaras, I don't really remember it. The most striking thing to me was how stupid the villain was, in looks and motivation.
