Have you considered somehow adding numbers/letters that could effectively make them serve as both action tokens and ID markers (Decals, branding, embossing, etc)? The ring would have to be turned so that the action token "value" is directly under the combat window, but that's a minor issue.
It's not just material, it's time. Each ring takes about 10 min to make, plus start up time (heating all the elements). I'm doing 4 at a time right now which takes about 45 min. Adding a solid base would have also cost me a lot more time.
wait wait wait so they are not cups like the pics show?? they are more like the old rings?? if so that is a bit misleading because your kickstarter shows cups with full bottoms. i haven't seen any pics of this ring design, did i miss them somewhere?? you really should add all new pics to your first post that way they are easy to see.
EDIT: i just found the updates tab and see the new RING.. have to say it looked better as a cup.

You're not the first person to suggest something like this so I have a serious question... how often do you use the old rings?? I haven't picked up one of those rings since Superman came out. In fact, part of why I love the oreo bases is that I don't have to mess with the rings to tun the dials. So, fom my perspective, I'm at a loss for why somebody would want something designed with those rings in mind. I don't mean that as a slam on anyone's preference, I'm just trying to understand. Can you (or anyone else) shed some light on it?
but you can have an extra cup in your hand to help turn the base while leaving the marker one on the map... or just turn it on the map and never pick the fig up.
just two days ago i had to hand my ring over to another player because he was having a hard time turning all his figs (this was for the thanos by the way) all his figs where from the newer sets but he could not turn a singe one on his own. i keep my ring with me at all games just in case. having the notches would help out the newer gamers that don't have a ring and like algrim stated before it would add a positive selling point to your product.

i grip the figure anyways, its the only way i can turn the stupid oreo dials. Oreo dials did not eliminate the having to hold on to the model to turn the dial, the only thing that did that was the old H bases and using the rings

Right under the main pic there's a blurb that that says "edit... see updates for final design"... or something along those lines.

I thought I would too, but after having the new design in my hands I prefer the new ones. My prototypes just seem "bulky" by comparision.

There are 542,000 children in foster care. Talk to your local foster and adoptive agency. You could change a life.

I just posted the same verbage across the main picture. Hope that helps.

If the project hits the 200% mark, then the objects will be available to people who pledge $20 or more (there's a section called "Stretch Goals" that details it).
