it's not racist it's a jab at the fact ULTIMATE SPIDERMAN is a shell of it's former self since they replaced Peter.
Nope, it's racist. If you had said that this was better than replacing him with some kid he never met, after killing him in a stupid way, then that would not have been racist. Saying it was bad because he was replaced with a black kid is overtly racist because you attribute the quality of the story to the race of the character.
Not to mention that - and I've already said this once but I'm willing to say it again - all things considered, Peter Parker deserved a better and happier ending than being the victim of the ultimate identity thief and dying of old age in an evil supervillains body while they get to supposedly live out what should have been his life.
Yeah,
That's the other thing that's leaving a sour taste in my mouth.
If this is truly the end of Peter Parker than he deserved better.
He worked so hard to make the world better, and for what?!?
For none of his friends and associates to even know he died?
He gets no send off?
No final farewell?
That's terrible.
I'm going to hit him really, really hard with a big green boxing glove............ I'm kidding. - Hal Jordan

Yup.

I'm not a regular Spiderman reader. I picked up ASM 700 this weekend, and I don't think Peter gave up at all. There's a difference between giving up and being absolutely unable to do anything, which is where he was, in a dying, broken body, with his one last gamble dashed by Ock out-thinking him.
Despite the memory "push" at the end, Peter is now Ock's 'Uncle Ben' more or less, the good man who died as a result of his actions. As much as I hate reboots, this one might actually turn out to be interesting. I don't know that I'm going to pick it up, but if you're a regular Spiderman reader, you might actually like it.
Between Wacker's (the editor on ASM and the new "cosmic books" at Marvel) comments and the nerfing (temporarily as it may be) of Peter.... I'm just not really the target audience for Marvel anymore.
Where are these comments?
edit - Just found the Loeb/Nova thread on CBR. WOW. I can't believe that guy is an editor and allowed to post in such a manner in representation of a company's product.

1. Parker couldn't do anything when Ock trapped him under tons of rubble in ASM#32 either...
2. As opposed to all the other good people Ock's killed over the years?

Just, wow.
Check Wacker's twitter feed, too. He spent Friday night/Saturday morning arguing with people (mainly Rich Johnston) over whether or not having sex with someone while lying about your identity constitutes rape or not. Given that he already went through that once he particularly comes off like a clueless idiot.

Did he have a broken spine in ASM #32? Or massive organ failure? Did you even READ issue #700? I don't see how people can say Peter gave up. At all. Honestly, given the way they described the condition Ock's body was supposed to be in, it's surprising the fight lasted as long as it did.

No emotional connection to any of them?
Incidentally, Thunderbolts has been ongoing since 1997. Granted, none of them pretended to be Spiderman, but still, murdering scum and criminals all.

I don't really mess with twitter feeds, too easy to get sucked in. I posted a lengthy response on the CBR Nova thread. It was deleted. All of Wacker's insult posts are still there, though.

If only he had some sort mentally controlled, super strong appendages he could have used! Oh, wait...
Yes, I read it.

That may technically be true, though he thought he killed Sandman during Revenge of the Sinister Six.

Actually out of the original group that betrayed Zemo, only Abner Jenkins had ever killed anyone, which is why Hawkeye required him to go to jail when he took over the team. The rest of the group had shown an actual desire for redemption (unlike Ock who tried to burn the whole world last week, Marvel time). The hard-core killers were placed on the team by the government.

As Joe notes, the current and previous Thunderbolts team has little to do with the Thunderbolts. The team, as originally written and then refounded, were people who were trying to find redemption in the end. Yes they started off as villains on a dastardly plot, but soon found they wanted to be redeemed. The one murderer on the team volluntarily turned himself in for punishment in order to do the right thing.
It made for one of the best series in a long time.

He's so bad, he mak'a me mad
Un-fun Dad, un-fun Dad
He's a real cad, Un-fun Dad"

I think you must've missed the part where Peter says "It hurts... Can't even focus enough to use the arms..." y'know, after falling and snapping his spine. And don't forget the massive organ failure.

What's he gonna do, then? Turn himself in, in Peter's body, for his crimes? Or let the Gold Octobot have a go at his unshielded head, given what Peter admits would happen if it had worked. That is, if the transfer would even still occur with "Ock" dead.
Despite burning the world (like I said, not a regular reader of Spiderman) Ock now seems to be showing at least *some* desire to make up for *some* of his actions. Not the same thing, sure, but like I first said, what if it's good?
