I laugh at this. I want nightwing and gandalf for my theme teams!!! Um what theme? You can still use them together. They work the same. That's not a "theme," you just want the free prob control.
I applaud wizkids on this.
How about:
Batman Family
Outsiders
Teen Titans
Thorin and Company
Fellowship
Trade to Canada. We're friendly, and we love Beavers..........
Why do people come up with this lame ### argument. this has nothing to do with gettting free probs. some teams dont have enough pieces to meet a 300pt build in any age so it was nice to have filler.
the biggest issue is the fact these 2 pieces DIDN'T need the change. these pieces were most likely singled out because the can copy named themes and not just generics like others pieces that do what these pieces did. it was a stupid change plain and simple just like how noh vars change was stupid.
to appluad WKs for anything these days is rather asnine as well.
So gandalf and nightwing are the only 2 pieces you can fill a 300 pt team with? If it is indeed not about probs then what is the issue? Besides not liking the ruling. I can understand that. But when people say "this sucks cuz gandalf can't be a black lantern" that screams "I'm mad cuz no free prob control" to me.
Batman Family
Outsiders
Teen Titans
Thorin and Company
Fellowship
It sucks for those keywords. It does. I'd be down for this to get fixed. But when a large chunk of the argument I read is NW no longer being a black lantern, I have to laugh.
But "theme" is a poor choice for teams that share a keyword. They should change the term imo.

Can't tell you what not to laugh at, but your dismissive tone is irritating.
The thing it comes down to to me is "why did this even need to happen, and how was it even something on the radar" considering other issues like those with vehicles?
If I step away from the entire argument regarding the change and go back to what I think is the real issue in this game, anyway - that being the game now relies far too heavily on keyword awarded theme teams (which would be a thread worth of discussion in and of itself) - this errata and dog and pony show surrounding just drives home feeling about that in the first place.
For all you Theme Team only guys out there, What did you do up until Legion of Super-Heroes came out? Since Keywords didn't exist until then.
To be honest, I lost quite a lot. I got into the game playing teams no one else would, like Gotham City police, New Mutants, or Starjammers. Doing this back in the day, before themed team bonuses, was often simply demanding for folks to show me how many ways I could lose!
The themed team bonuses were nice when introduced, and they still are. For many players, they have run in the past "themed teams" that received no bonus simply because the bonus wasn't an option (and, thus, limiting yourself in such ways was often very undesirable back then because you were missing out on a variety of options for team building simply because you were wanting to be a "purist," of sorts). However, now that such bonuses exist and now that people are expecting such bonuses to be there for them to use (if not abuse, depending on the team and circumstance), is it unreasonable for us to expect WizKids to try to do their best to give some leeway and wiggle room to accommodate the players' wishes to an extent?

I laugh at people complaining under the guise of "theme." It sucks NW can't be a Teen Titan and keep theme. But if you compare his trait to morgan le fay's then I see why they updated the ruling: consistency.
You may find my laughing irritating, and I can't help that. But I find this whole wave of "____ doesn't have ____ keyword so I can't use it on my team" irritating. For the first time I actually think "theme" teams need adjusting again.

I've been playing theme long before some stupid rule may it cool snd useful. The whole reason I started playing so I could play my favorite teams. Back when Galactus was 1800 points I had a 1800 JLA team to fight him, the average game for me any my friends was 700-800 and my go to 1200 team has and continues to be the REAL original 7 members of the JLA (sorry Cyborg doesn't count).
So don't go off acting like this is simply about theme team probs. Wizkids made theme teams as a way to benefit those of is who were already doing it, so why now when I can continue todo something I've been doing since Hypertime, when I do something that supposedly Wizkids made to benefit players like me why oh why do I no longer get those so called benefits when I play my Mother F*cking Titans and Batman Family!?
So much for Wizkids trying to benefit those playing classic teams.

Under this system characters that have never appeared together can be a theme team and reap the benefit. In the old days at least when people made themes it truly was a theme.

Really? I haven't kept up with comics in about 20 years. Before the theme team bonus, I made 'theme' teams all the time. Avengers, X-Men, JLA, Minions of Doom, Defenders, Batman Enemy, Batman Ally, Ultimates etc etc etc. As well, I'd make up weird fun 'theme' teams like: all characters with a red cape, all characters with a bow, all characters with names starting with B, heck I even made a team where each characters first letter of their name spelled out my first and last name. I can guarantee that none of them was 'truly' a theme.
I didn't care if Jean Grey, Professor X, Nightcrawler, Wolverine and Beast had never appeared in a single issue of X-Men together* before, they were X-Men and that was enough. When theme team bonuses came along, we actually ignored them for a good long while, as we didn't care (and we didn't really understand how they worked at the time). I never mix universes, and I rarely play generic keyword theme teams, but as far as comic accurate theme teams are concerned, I couldn't tell you if I've ever played any (with the exception of teams like U-Foes that only have 4 members, and the F4 etc).
Comic accuracy doesn't even really exist in this game anyway, it never did. This is a game based upon a source material. It is not a comic book simulation, and never has been. I am by no means a min./max. player, though I won't say I've never done it, and I find it to be boring now, but neither am I some comic 'purist' who can only view this game with one (very narrow) mindset. IMO that mindset hurts this game more than it helps it. You have your view on how this game should be played, others have theirs, and neither is wrong nor better than the other. In the end, you need to play the way you feel comfortable with, and let others do the same, and don't let your idea of fun, impinge upon their idea of fun.
A true theme team can be whatever someone wants it to be, whether you like/agree with it or not. Theme team bonuses are just a nice way of letting those that were already building theme teams get, well exactly that, a bonus. Of course, like everything else in the game, the min./max. players have found a way to use/abuse this as well, but that's the nature of this game, and always has been.
In a game where Fin Fang Foom, a Frost Giant or a Sentinel can pilot a Police Crusiser, you are worried about someone thinking that Nightwing as a Skrull being cool/fun, is a 'problem' ?
* I have no idea if this is true or not, but that's not really the point anyway.
Trade to Canada. We're friendly, and we love Beavers..........

I deleted the rest for brevity. But I agree with all of it. I highlighted the above because I'm going to have Fin Fang Foom pilot a police cruiser. It's happening.

That honestly just makes me smile and laugh The visual is priceless

Galactus as the pilot of the Batcycle was a TON of fun. Until it was destroyed and then used as an Ultra-Heavy Object to KO him

Wait...so Gandalf's arability that was 100% designed so you can put him in a theme with Thron % Company...does not work cause you interpreted wrongly? and we know it's wrong, cause there is no reasonable way it would not work that way. To say it was not intented to work that way means the person who made it is a idiot. And i do not think that is likely.....
Errata should be used to fix things that are broken.
Actually errata is to be primarily used to fix errors.
If the designers intend a figure to work a certain way and the published result does not work the way it was intended to work, that is an error. Errata is there to be used to correct said error.

The reason has been communicated.
Changes in the PG are not about whether or not something is "broken" but are about whether something is wrong.
The effect was meant to open them up for effects like minion powers and other things which key off of keywords. The final result ended up spanning more than that. Since it was not working the way it was designed, then a change was issued to fix it so that it did work as they wanted it to work.
