I think the YMG deck basically wants to play Frankie a bunch of time and then use Hala to do huge amounts of BEL - hence the need for Null Time Zone.
True, but typically (from my understanding, although it's been a while since I've seen a build of this deck) you use 2-3 Hala on the single attack, revealing and KOing resources to do so.
Why let it get to that point? If it can be demonstrated that the format is broken, what reason is there to let it continue and ruin a PC? UDE's players are going to get a lot more excited about an interesting and varied metagame than they are a combo winter, and promotion of the game is what the PC is all about.
PCLA 06 turned out fine after several cards were banned. Most of the players said it was one of the best PCs of the year. It seems like it'd be better for the game to go ahead and ban Frankie (and maybe Attend or Die) and have another good PC.
Won't argue with you about what would make a more interesting PC from the player's perspective. I'd hate to show up after paying over a grand for airfare and find the meta comes down to a coin flip.
This is more about UDE learning from its mistakes. It's called play testing... that's what they pay R & D for. Again, the degenerate nature of Frankie Raye is known (now, at least) to UDE and they have still refused to do anything about it. Even if they decide to ban the card after reading these rants, the period of inaction where Frankie was still viable consumed a great deal of the testing period between PCLA and PCSydney. It just seems to me like a situation that could have been avoided.
UDE's way out is easy... ban the card. There is no "fallout" to them... only rants and raving on their "fansites" regarding the decision. If you want a better product (ie. something you're not wasting months of testing on because it could be banned a matter of weeks or days before the event), then there is really only one way to get the point across to them outside of boycotting/quitting the game and that is to rant on the "fansites" about OMG BORKEN DECK. Personally, I'm in this to play the game (at a higher level than a lot of folks... hopefully winning some $$$ at the same time)... not to do UDE's testing for them.
Just wish they'd learn something from all of this.... Perhaps a low turn-out for a PC and several degenerate decks would be a good lesson to them (meaning UDE and not the players).
There has to be some accountability on UDE's part.
What, name one that hasn't been banned yet?
she enables things that aren't supposed to happen (like actually get nega-bomb off)
anything that allows you to play things for free, that allow you to recur multiple things from the Ko'd pile in one turn, cycle through at a rediculous pace
should be taboo at UDE R&D
everytime it enables some kind of bad interaction
yeah but there are other cards out there that are more broken then her
Eh. "More broken" is really relative. I agree that there are quite a few "enabler" type cards out there, but nothing is being so blatantly abused as Frankie...
I still would hate to see her banned, as I like the idea of freebie 1 drops, and Heralds would take a serious hit...but if it has to be done for the greater good, I understand.
Although you DID show me a decklist, the original inspiration came from the rigged elections deck that was played at the PC. I was curious about your list and as a member of a team it's my job to play dumb.

Unfortunately, if UDE is to learn their lesson all of the players who go to this event will suffer, as you say, and will end up flipping coins to see who wins.

I agree, Frankie should have gone out with Valeria and Talia.

Again, players will suffer. But it may not be that high a price to pay if it will show UDE the error of their playtesting (or lack thereof) ways. I'm not going to Sydney myself, but I hope for those that are that UDE will come up with something to make the game right again.
I think the answer is to add a rule that you may only free recruit one character a turn. Simple and easy errata to the rules that will ensure that all this crazyness is not going to happen, and doesn't nutter the idea of having free characters, as long as they are being used in the way they are designed. Leaves the free characters as is, as well as attned or die. Would not be the first rules change to accomidate for otherwise broken cards.
While I still don't feel that frankie raye is the card that needs hit with the ban hammer, I think something needs to be done, and I feel that this is the best possible route. Evens keeps us from needing to ban attend or die. :-P
