I believe you are exempt from "realistic chance" shamilton.
I'm sad to hear that Leader won't be going to his Elite. I know he hates VS Constructed but I think it would be a nice show of support, especially to his other local players who can say "I played/pwned/got served by the David Leader at my Elite Series!".
I doubt many of my area money pros are going... only Patrick because he still likes to play the game and Constructed is fun for him (plus he's always making decks).
And me and stu may seem like we don't like each other but one of the things I absolutely admire about him is the fact that he plays whenever he can... win or lose... he's there for the social aspect of VS and that's an important part of the game.
It's still up in the air for me, as I may be able to get into E For All for free. You can't beat free (especially since parking costs money) entry into a convention.
I guess I'm a video gamer at heart, quelle surprise.
I don't think Quickfate is that big of a deal because you can tech against it. There's a lot you can do. If you think about, teching against Quickfate will probably help against FrankFate as well. I think it's just one of the many "negatives" that people point too and use as an excuse not to go. That's fine, but even if QuickFate was banned there would be some other dominant deck in the format for everyone to complain about. The same thing happens in fighting games- "OMGWTFBBQ1!!! Cable/Steve/Xianghua is busted good and God tier; this game SUCKS! I'm not playing this crap!" Cut to later when people figure stuff out and how to meta against those good characters...
You could actually do worse than eat at Chipotle, but yeah if you get a burrito with all the fixings it's like 1000+ calories in one sitting. I also find it hilarious that people consider this Latin food. I eat at Panda Express (or I did) but I would never consider that Chinese food. This is California, surely there should be a better place in Berekley to eat than at a chain?
Also, guacomole is cheap even at a place like Trader Joe's. Your $2 will go way further if you buy it pre-made at a supermarket...I should know because I'm lazy too. :)
I try my hardest to gain weight, and have my whole life. I am one of those cursed with an unholy metabolism. Was always too light to participate in any physical sports.
Right now I can eat two Chipotles back to back with a soda, and some chips, on my way to the infamous "three burrito challenge" offered at out local Chipotle.
I have been asked to leave a Red Lobster during all you can eat shrimp for pushing past the 230 shrimp scampi mark, and plan to hit 300 before I die.
I would like to add that I am in the best shape I have been my whole life, and my doctor agrees, so anyone who wants to stop eating "gamer" food can pass their leftovers this way.
Dude it is my life long dream to eat three of those burritos. Like the three Chipotle burrito is my Everest. I can take two down now pretty handily right now, but three is out of my the realm of my powers, at least for now.

Man I hear you. That and the 300 scampi are my "twin peaks" right now.
Lame we are going to spend $150-200 dollars. Right now we don't need people bailing out we need higher attendence.
But see, that's exactly the point I'm trying to make. WHY spend that much? If the game dies in a couple of months, I don't want to look at my Marvel Zombie cards and think "Gee, that was money well spent."
I'm also bias. I have a big move in about a week and I can't see myself spending money for a VS tournament that will get me nothing. I'm really looking at this as a poker tournament. First place gets fame, glory and a wad of cash (instead, it's a wad of cards) and everything below it will get bupkiss.

1) Too far away
The last Elite Series in Texas was in Houston, a 5ish hour drive each way. I almost skipped that one, but a last minute vanpool made it feasible to go. Seven players from the same geographical location, and 6 six of us made Top 8. An equal sized group from Waco (which has a store owner who is also a PTO and has run a ton of PCQ's in the past) was in Houston too, and the winner was from that group. So instead of rewarding us with an Elite Series in Waco or Dallas, it goes to Austin, at another game store I've never heard of (no offense to the store, just never heard of a big event being run there), and a 3-4 hour drive (3 from Dallas, 4 from my house) away.
2) Prize Support
To be frank, the AoA cards offered just don't have the play value or resale value that Big Leagues and EMOE had at the time I made the decision to go. I like competition, but driving more than an hour or two for competition is going to require something for my time. Selfish, sure. I'd also like to point out, however, that I still have my EAs from the first Elite Series, so it's not all about the money. The prize support in Houston was ridiculous, as there was no separation in prizing at the Top 8 level save the playmat (which was raffled off in the most ridiculous manner I've ever seen). 9th through 16th got ancient boosters (Marvel Knights and Green Lantern Corps) for their time and efforts. Again, I like to play, but it's just not worth the trip (See #1)
3) The entry fee
Twenty bucks is just too high for a Constructed tournament with no set payout schedule for the folks who finish out of Top 8. For that price, every 4-5 people should add a box of product to the prize pool (and current product too, MVL or DWF). Again, the payout in Houston is what's soured me on this.
4) Just don't feel like playing
This isn't anyone's fault but my own. I'm just tired. I haven't played much of anything lately, save for the occasional Guitar Hero 2 session and some poker. If this was next month, things might be different, but the confluence of my energy level and the Elite Series just isn't there right now. A couple weeks ago, I still wasn't excited about going, but figured I'd still go with a group and help boost the numbers for attendance. That's not in the cards though. Again, not UDE's fault, unless they want to send someone to Texas to throw me in the back of a car, sit me at a table, and put 60 cards in front of me.
Simply put, if it's economically and physically feasible... please go to your Elite Series event. And if you can't... was there something we could have done to help?
Hobby-league (at least a weekly format as UDE knows and recognizes it) does not exist (in Canada) east of toronto. Period. Therefore, there will not be an elite series east of toronto for us unless we can get UDE's attention for some east coast love. While i have no doubts that we'll get the elites that we want eventually, things are simply progressing slower than expected. Any event within 3-4 hours and all 16-20 of us would make the trip. For now we are more than happy to have the support for the marquis events and the city championships.
Maybe it's for the best. Everyone would be in for a harsh awakening the day some of our east coast players finally butt heads with the "greats". We've got us some GAME hidden in these appalations.

What Elite Series?..... oh thats right I would have to drive 130 miles like last time for something that isn't limited...I can't see spilling 300 hundred bucks (as before) into an ### whooping. If it were closer to me so I wouldn't need a hotel room and a rental car, maybe, but it's not.
I'm in Lowell, MA - a 4+ hour drive to NYC. I'm married, have 3 kids and (silly me) actually expected there to be one at YMG this time around. It's a matter of Priorities - My wife, kids and general homelife are more of a priority to me than Vs. right now.
The 2 stores up here that actually seem to be interested in running tournaments on a regualr basis (Harrison's in Salem, MA and Jetpack up in NH) are (IMHO) left out in the cold by UDE because of UDE's connection with/loyalty to YMG. Aces and his crew are bending over backwards to grow this game, while YMG does nothing, and that's the real problem up here.
Thanx for the Shout out man. Your totaly right about YMG there caring less about the games and more about the money. I wish Harrison's could get contracted to do a tournament like the ES and stuff. Larry Harrison all ready said that he whould rent a lobby for the event. He has supported the game for me now for 3 1/2 years and Has all ways asked why he can't get the big tournaments. UDE is falling us there but at the same time so is Your Move Games.
