Doom Patrol only beat X-Men by about three months. It's not really likely that the X-Men were a reaction. Not long ago I read the early Doom Patrol comics for the first time, and they aren't like the X-Men at all. They *are* a lot like the Fantastic Four. Think of them as the "freak" version of the FF and you get the idea. Like the whole team was like the early Thing. They weren't hunted, they were still somewhat celebrities, if shunned/disliked.
X-Men was a more original concept. Actually being underground and such.
ehhh I agree with the FF For but I think the concept was more similar to the X-men.
I didnt' really see Rita as a "Thing" mainly Robot Man...
oh and yeah this will only get worse. You will see a major influx of "SCREW X-MEN X-men CAN BITE A ...."
And "X-men is the roxzorrz greather than Boxy and everything"
Yup...

My problem with Cap is that I never know what power level he's being written at. "Peak human" was where he was for a very long time. Slade's *never* been merely Peak Human. Cap's high point is Slade's starting point.
Yeah, the "peak human" thing was definitely the original intent, but Cap has surpassed that (by a pretty wide margin) more often than not. These days the best showcase for Steve's abilities (IMO) is the fight between he and Spider-Man during Civil War. Spider-Man was never really able to gain the upper hand against him, and this is Spider-Man in the Iron Spider suit built by Tony Stark.
Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
Slade has a very high Healing factor? I missed that portion of his skillz when Deadshot handed him his ###. Double K.O., but Deadshot is regular human. Or maybe it was that time with Batgirl....no? Geo-force?
Hes very inconsistent. Just like my beloved Prometheus.

Didn't they explain that as:
Original Prometheus is STILL Prometheus but after that it was his "Robin" Acting in his steed...and messing up?

Well, Slade's healing factor responds to severity of injury. Wolverine's/Deadpool's is far better in the short-term, but Slade's might be better in the long-term.

I think the two are actually a pretty even match. I just don't like it when people say Slade is only "peak human" when he's far, far stronger.

And yet, neither of which are true.
Slade's powers have always been inconsistent...canonically. When he had his own series, he was sans powers for most of it.
Cap, is peak human, but since we are always finding ways people are stretching the limits of what the human body can do, that obviously affects Captain America's stated abilities in a positive upward curve.
The Ultimate Captain America is not peak human, he is super human so it's not quite the same thing.

Ah, Deadshot actually mentions Slade's healing factor in that very fight, assuming you're talking about the one in Villain's United. It's not a "very high" healing factor, but he has one.
Besides which, how consistently a character is portrayed doesn't necessarily matter: Just their high point and low point. Deathstroke's high point is tossing around the Teen Titans or JLA. His low point is getting beaten up by the likes of Black Canary. Wolverine's high point...doesn't approach taking on the Teen Titans or JLA, or more universe appropriate, the Avengers.
I'm in Providence! I've been out of the hobby, but I'm looking for Saturday gaming. Send me a PM if you know the down-low!

Rita was the exception, like Thing in reverse. Or Marylin on the Munsters.
Seriously, if you read those books (grab the Showcase edition), they are a lot like the early FF, not much at all like the early X-Men. The early X-men were feared, underground, hunted and largely unknown to the public at large. The Doom Patrol was a highly public group of powered adventurers with a focus on larger-than-life threats, led by a scientific genius. They even have a similar family vibe as Gar and Steve get introduced.
Of course, the FF themselves were just a super-powered version of the Challengers of the Unknown (Kirby riffing on himself). X-Men is not in that same tradition, though.
Everybody loves that bit of trivia, but I can't see the X-Men as more than having coincidental, superficial similarities with the DP.
Speaking of which, DP7 *was* a ripoff of the Doom Patrol. Right down to Antibody.

Oh Dear the NEW UNIVERSE...
Wow...Forgot all about that...but yeah after I get some case I'll probably pick it up after I get the Suicide Squad (NEXT MONTH. GO OUT AND BUY NOW!) Trial by Fire.

I just realized that Monet isn't in this set. Boo. Maybe one of the lady Hellions could be repainted for her as an LE.
This is one of my biggest let downs. I understand that Rictor is kind of hard to do (to finish modern X-Factor) but Monet is pretty simple, and she fills out two lineups!
