Waking up each day with your cold getting steadily nastier should also not happen.
Is it possible that I caught this from you over the internets??
Of course! it's a virus!
I want these clixed: Doc Savage, Fu Manchu, Tarzan, The Shadow, The Green Hornet & Kato, Conan, Solomon Kane, The Phantom, King Kong, Universal Monsters, Black Orchid, Manhunter (Paul Kirk), Xemnu the Titan, unclixed Kirby Fourth World characters, and Lilith, Daughter Of Dracula.
Good luck with the event! As that's roughly 750 miles from me and I'd likely have to think hard about it were it only 75, I can't see it happening. Tell you what, though, if I suddenly become independently wealthy I'll give it a second consideration!
robedestroyer: Yeah, you were definitely taken. I can understand a possible reason behind the judge's call, as he was looking at how this might impact the regulars -- regardless of how pleasantly you play, to the others at the venue you could easily be perceived as a prize shark. Still, if he was going to mix up the winner's criteria he should have said something about it before the match. You handled it with class, though.
The only other thing I can say on the issue is my well-worn observation that so many problems would vanish from venue play if there were no LE prizes. If that meant that the players vanish, too, then the game must truly suck and deserves to die.
Definitely got screwed! If he wanted to give the last place finisher a prize, it should have been the Fellowship prize. You went out of your way to attend the event. Played well and won fair and square. You deserve that Deadpool. I'd be big time ticked if I was you.

It's not as if I need the prize that I am winning at the time, but to have things stolen out of your hands sucks too. I would be fine if the judge were to come up to me and say "Hey, I know you have this figure already, so would you mind if I announce that you were the winner but award the prize to PERSON X since they had a hard time today?" A lot of times and with a lot of the prizes, I would rather have the winning credits than the 5th white lantern object anyway.
I should also add they don't give Fellowship an LE. Instead the winner gets an LE figure and fellowship gets an object. This is what they do every week.

When and where is said Ogre the Gathering 2011?

3. You say you don't show up that often. Do you spend money while you're there, or at other times, to support the shop?
I've been there about 5 times now in the last 2 months and I'll buy boosters if they are doing a sealed event. It's a half hour away so I don't go there to buy Heroclix or comics, for that I just go to the venue where I judge normally.

I would just keep going until they realize you aren't just some prize shark. Give them a little leeway until they get used to you being part of the group.
I plan on going back again. I bring a couple people with me to go there and play and we seem to be the only ones at the tournament that know the rules of the game. Most of their players seem to be fairly new (only been playing for a year or less).
Coincidentally, one of the nights I was there to play, the VP and Secretary of the Iowa Comic Book Club (apparently they do a convention in Iowa) was there. The VP partnered up with me for the tournament so I could teach him the game. The format was a 2 player team-up. At the time I didn't know who he was, but afterwards he told me and asked if I would be interesting in being the judge for the Iowa Comic Book Convention (or whatever they call it down here). It would be cool if some Ogres came to this convention.
I may be able to make the Ogre gathering. It's about a 3 1/2 hour drive up there and if I can get a buddy or two to go with me, I'll probably make it up there.
Rob, you definately got screwed over. I'd say to talk to the owner/judge and see if you can work things out with him. As someone else said he could be protecting his own so to speak and that could be where he's coming from.
It's like Michael Jordan going to the YMCA to play basketball.
Welcome Charlie (Charles William Cook)! Born 7/14/2011!
I actually do know where most of the Ogres live, and it is true that most live at a prohibitive distance. One of our members is in Michigan and one is in Iowa, but that is about the closest any of our unaccounted for members lives to our FCBD event.
But if AlienFlanders wanted to make the trip, I'd make sure he didn't pay for anything other then his transportation.
If the Lotto gods would smile on me a bit stronger, I would be there...

Five hours to the south, though, right? I believe you're closer to this than I am.
C'mon. Tell me that you wouldn't want to come play a game of clix with TheAvengerthor, Chirocker, and myself and then go see the Thor movie with us afterwards!
Thor Movie...and spooning? I'm there....
