This is a real concern here, and an argument FOR the way this set was done.
Do you release a set where 80% of the figures will under-perform, from day one, simply because of precedent?
Or do you learn from the past, and price figures based on performance?
We faced this kind of an abrupt transition back with Secret Invasion, and the game ended up better for it. This is much less drastic than The Thing and Namor were to their respective environment.
I find it very short-sighted to be in favor of power leap. it requires a blind eye turned to the damage done to the longterm of the game.
i'm not talking about the deficit on uncarded pieces, or even pre-oreo pieces, i'm talking stuff that came out last year is already overpriced. so instead of worrying about underperforming bricks, how about everything in last year's brick you haven't even played with yet isn't worth their points anymore
and bear in mind this isn't a gradual wear down of value. this isn't a 10 or heck even a 25% discount. this is a devaluing of heavy reducers to the almost nothing. defense powers appear to have no discernable cost differential. so why have invuln and not toughness? or why have invince? they cost is negligible (if existent at all) so you're not just overpaying for older figures, you're underpaying for current ones. that guy's toughness is probably leaving power on the table cause it just as well could have been impervious at this point.
and what about the powerleap next year? or next set? if we're continually blowing everything out of the water to turn everything up to 11s, it's gonna dragonball z very quickly.
it's short-sighted and i'm not ready to chuck my investment in this game just so I can buy more. cause let me tell you, between the two choices, it ain't a choice
I think the issue with the power creep is that this set feels like a significant bump over many of the other recent sets with lower cost characters we've become used to. Bump the breaks a bit wizkids.
As for Carol, she was a much better character as Warbird. Back then she had flaws, was a conflicted character and worked to overcome. Now she's simply a mascot.

I'm not saying the characters in this set arent undercosted, they are. But think about what you get in this day and age in heroclix for a 50 point piece, a 75 point piece. 3 of those is typically far better than the old standard 150 point bricks. I see it as the upper end of standard figures finally getting their own power creep to being relevant again.
Sidenote: the figure from this set that actually had me do a double take is that 45 point "The Captain" with an 11 attack the length of his dial lol. That man must never get winded.

Las time I saw that many 11s on that cheap of a character it was playing against the Paul Kirk Manhunter from the HQ set. One could make an easy argument that Cap is better, AND he's 5 points cheaper!
My H/W link does not reflect the wants for my collection, it is a list of figures that I already have, but still "want" to play.
I'm kind of vomiting in my mouth a little from the defending the drastic power creep and point dip.
I am only defending them until the point where we've actually played with them. At that point the results will tell us whether or not these are actually as impressive as they appeared to be. After all, now that you can look at dials, most of the clicks don't matter on any given dial. Perhaps consistency is going to be the new norm.

I'm not supporting power leap. I don't like to see an escalation either. But I am questioning how much the increases seen here are actually going to bear out in gameplay. I worry that this is more an attempt to over correct for fully visible dials than anything to do with wanting to give figures more power. You only see about 2 clicks on a 6 click dial anyway. What is the difference between, say, Punisher War Machine and someone who's 4th click is just as good as their 1st? While both of them are just as likely to end up on the same click after taking a good solid hit, the only real difference in practice is that a smart player with flexible options is going to skip that 4th click on the old figure, and isn't able to get around it on the new.

I partially agree with you in that this power leap is no more egregious than some in the past.
In fact, I'd argue that both the power jumps between Monsters/Mutations to Secret Invasion and Teen Titans to WatX were much more significant in how they altered the way the game is played. Both of those sets had a very tangible and obvious shift in combat values (attack value being the primary culprit) compared to previous sets. In addition, both seemed to chop off the lower end of expected values on dials (say goodbye to the 7 AVs in Secret Invasion and the 8 AV in WatX) which made even the average piece from those sets vastly superior to the better pieces from prior sets.
Attack Value is, IMO, the biggest indicator of power creep. One of the most notable indicators of the age of a piece is how its attack values begin and taper off, which also is a primary catalyst for a piece feeling 'old' even if it at one point was a perfectly fine piece.
*Fear Itself, instead of WatX, could also be argued as set that normalized 11 AVs. In addition, it also included those damned hammers to bring attacks up to 13/14!
