The point is that's effectively what a starship is it's a giant vehicle and if they had the vehicle Keyword we would have a basis for a better understanding of where they fit into the meta game. But since they don't have the vehicle keyword we have this artificially created nebula of what a ship is when it's obvious A SHIP IS A VEHICLE.
I guess I don't understand what difference it would make.
Are you suggesting not referring to it as a Ship in their special text and, instead, using the word character? Because they have the Vehicle keyword?
Clearly, Star Trek is FAR different than other clix sets, considering that they are SHIPS. Like, the kind of things that you enter and pilot, the kind of things that require a crew of at least greater than 10 people. These Star Trek pieces are NOT meant to be played with normal Heroclix at all. SERIOUSLY! USE YOUR COMMON SENSE! Are you really gonna have the Enterprise, a huge STARSHIP, be the same size as a common Mugger? It doesn't make sense.
Why can't we just leave it alone?
A ship is something that only has to do with Star Trek. Star Trek and normal Clix are not meant to be played together... PERIOD
Problem Solved
REALLY, what if someday Marvel decides "hey let's make a set with ships used by the Marvel Universe"
The X-Men's Blackbird
The Ouint Jet
Galactus's Worldship
THE FANTASIC CAR
Skrull Warships
Kree Warships
The Shi'ar
Are you REALLY going to dismiss this level of AWESOMENESS

Marvel says OTHERWISE
and DC needs to confer with BRAINIAC (who is effectively A COLOSSAL STARSHIP), Superman (came to earth IN A ROCKET SHIP), The Kryptonians (tried to invade earth IN STARSHIPS), THE LEGION OF SUPERHEROES (PILOT STARSHIPS). Both APOKOLIPS & NEW GENESIS have HUGE fleets of WARSHIPS they use to oppose each other.

Effectively the definition should be "a ship is type of charactor that has the vehicle keyword and uses a miniature other than that of a standard heroclix figure
The thing I can't figure out is why people are still getting hung up on what's Modern Age and what's Golden Age when it really makes no difference unless you're at a Wizkids sponsored constructed event. And really, how many of those are there? There was Nationals at Origins and Worlds and a handful (4? 5?) of other Golden and Modern events at GenCon? It's been stated multiple times since Neca took over that, unless you're selling off OP kits, WK doesn't care what happens at the venue level. If a venue wants Tactics to be included with "normal" Heroclix, that's fine. If they don't, that's also their prerogative.

Fourth World: Tactics. Yes please.

But what's "a standard Heroclix figure"? As vamroc pointed out, what if they make the Blackbird, or the Batmobile, etc., etc.?
I just got silly excited imagining a batmobile clix!!! I would love that! Oh or a batwing!!! Especially the 1989 Batman designs! Now I think I've got myself all worked up over nothing...

Yep, and if they had done this with HorrorClix, or especially made ALL HorroClix compatible with Heroclix like they did with the 4 original Marvel Zombies and the Hellboy/BPRD set,
then HorrorClix would still be alive and most likely thriving today.
While I don't think that would have hurt Horrorclix, I really don't think that would have saved it. They needed to bring in more licensed properties. Generic zombies, vampires, werewolves and other classic monsters of myth and legend are find. They could make Cthulhu monsters until the cows came home (and I wish they would have). But all the "niche" creatures and heroes they just made up didn't appeal to many people IME. Give us Buffy and her enemies (and I know that property is controversial, but at the time it definitely would have been timely), the Winchesters (Supernatural), the cast of The Walking Dead, Pinhead and the other Cenobites, the classic Universal monsters, ASH, Selene and other characters from Underworld, a decent Blade and his allies (the Bloodpack would be awesome, as would the Nightstalkers), the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (either comic or movie versions)...MAN that could have been something.
Again, I don't think compatibility would have hurt, but it was only one of the issues with Horrorclix (and IMO the least of them...at least a lack of 100% compatibility let them add some fun mechanics to the game to capture a horror feel). WK didn't seem to understand that they could have used recognizable properties to really add value and sell the heck out of Horrorclix.

Yes, venues are free to allow or disallow mixing the two games. The point of them not being included in either Age is that Heroclix: Tactics isn't part of the main Heroclix game at all. It's a separate game. Your venue wants to mix the two games, cool, they've given you the vehicle to do that with the leveraging of the same rules. Heroclix: Tactics obviously isn't designed to fit the Heroclix game and still represent the same thing (massive spaceships from the Star Trek universe), but if you're cool with that, go for it! Some may even prefer them dialed this way, as they can use them to represent ships from the Microverse, or weaponized toys used by several villains (Toyman, Joker, Arcade, etc.).

Y'know, I really didn't want this thread to devolve back into this. There was another, more interesting thread a little while ago that dealt with all this business.
This thread was meant to be something different.
Maybe it's ironic, then, that you all forced it to become the same thread as the others.

I can quote your OP back to you if you like...it's really not that different than the OP from those other threads you mention.

I agree completely. Besides, the only time age matters is when you're making sure they're 18 and up. That's it.

How ships work and what age they are and whether they could or should or would is of no interest to me nor should it be to any of you anymore. How things work are now clear and defined. There's nothing to discuss.
What my point IS is that Tactics is symptomatic of an issue that I don't wanna sound like a dick for harping on, but it needs to be mentioned constantly if there's any hope for it to be fixed. Which is that whoever is designing Heroclix is not paying attention to what they're doing. I mean, there have to be some great designers over at WKHQ. They're putting out some real zingers that are getting lots of good attention. Fleet Captains and Mage Knight and such and such.
But it's clear that Heroclix, especially the B projects, are projects that are being pumped out fast and cheap and left to autocorrect thanks to the downtrodden Oranges. I don't envy those guys, who have to deal with how dumb and demanding we all are, especially with all the dunderheaded noodle-scratchers GD is releasing for them to clear up.
My POINT is that they make Tactics the same [despite the compromise this may be to the property], and yet say "Uh, you there. Don't use them together." But then release them with exactly the same rules so as to give you zero reason to think you can't use them together, BUT squeeze the rules easter egg that is "ship" onto the cards, and nowhere else, which may or may not represent... something. But who knows? This whole thing is an exercise in fence-sitting and I'm getting frustrated by the lack of GD's ability to demonstrate they A] know what they're doing or B] give a ####. They are abundant with ideas, but clearly deficient in their ability to manage those ideas mechanically.
Wizkids is good people and they make good games. Heroclix is fun, and I still buy it compulsively and enjoy when I play it. But I can't say in all honesty that I don't feel that these things are true despite the company itself.
I'll caveat this by saying I have not read this thread. I don't know how much of what I post here will be seen as vindication or vilification of deputies and/or other posters. Neither is my intent, only communication.
Star Trek Tactics is a separate game from other HeroClix sets. It is not Modern Age, it is not Golden Age.
That it refers to ships is indicative of this separateness.
That said, it is a game that is compatible with other HeroClix sets. How does one "bridge" that compatibility? By understanding that "ships" and "characters" are interchangeable.
If any of the deputies communicated differently, it's likely my own fault and not anyone at WK/NECA because I was, at one point, under the impression they were going to be categorized as "Golden Age".
All of this is planned to be documented in the upcoming updates to the Player's Guide and Tournament Guide. Those will be "soon". Ish.
And what I'm also hoping we get out of this, a new "age" distinction:
Modern Age: "unretired" Marvel, DC, plus whatever they deem
Golden Age: all Heroclix pieces, cards, bystanders, objects, etc. (except Purple Rings and Star Trek Tactics, for now)
Fun Age: all Heroclix pieces including Purple Rings and all cards, objects, bystanders, etc., including LOTR, Start Trek Tactics, and anything else Heroclix ever made
And then I would want to play a LOT of Fun Age games at the local venue.
Your "Fun Age" Should be called "Crossovers" or something like that ^_^
