I just watched Tucker and Dale vs. Evil.
It was fun, although it showed a bit more violence than I was expecting.
Also interesting to see that Alan Tudyk does not steal every scene in the movie the way he usually does (while still giving a good performance, of course).
It's hard to steal a scene with Tyler Labine in it, but I agree that's a fun movie. Particularly like when they're both running in the woods.
Saw "The World's End" this afternoon. Highly enjoyable. If you like the other tow movies in this "trilogy" you'll enjoy this.
I watched it too, and it was a great laugh. It's just a fun movie to go watch. There were more than a couple of popular British actors in it, including two cameos that are too funny to spoil on here.
TH0MAS5: The voice of reason speaks the truth. You are not just "Grunt" , you are "Super Grunt".
Werewolf kill count: 20
Finally saw Pacific Rim. Loved the movie, hated the tactics. Slamming armored fists into armored skulls over and over again, and tossing aquatic monsters from one side of the bay to the other is not how I'd fight if I were a Jaeger pilot.
Plus too much was at night/in the water, although that was probably to hide some of the special effects more than anything.

Tonight I watched The Incredible Hulk. It was okay, nothing spectacular. If you have nothing better to do for an hour and a half, it's a decent enough option.
Yesterday I watched Pitch Perfect, which I enjoyed very much, aside from the completely unnecessary projectile vomiting.
And before that I watched Death At A Funeral, which despite having Alan Tudyk and Peter Dinklage didn't do much for me. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood for that high a dosage of black humour.

I just came back from this. I enjoyed the movie too! I didn't really watch any of the previews so I was quite surprised about the whole thing. It is a Simon Pegg and Nick Frost movie, so it is a no brainer to want to see it.

The melee was largely just to stun them long enough to bring out their special attacks, which required more setup time, especially if you wanted to aim for weak points. Throwing the opponent off-balance was key.

Anyway, as for the last movie I saw... Saw Pacific Rim. Loved it! It really brought everything I was hoping for to the movie onto the table. Now here's hoping for a sequel, more comics, and more clix...

Bah. If they're going to wade into melee range, adding an axe blade , or even a splitting maul to a fist would change the outcome in 90% of the encounters. And Crimson Typhoon's whirly blades don't count. Those are only useful against an immobile target. Otherwise as soon as the Kaiju recoils, the cut becomes to shallow to do any damage.
And yeah, I get the futility of arguing about realistic fighting tactics vs huge monsters. I'm just saying.

As much as I enjoyed Pacific Rim, I had to agree with this. I do wonder why those Jeagger didn't just use bladed or blunt weapons to assure an easy victory. Ah well, it was such a nice movie to nit pick at.

How I saw it was: as they stated (iirc) the Kaiju were always evolving, getting stronger based on their attacks. They may have started out using blades (which is why Gypsy had one) but the Kaijus evolved past that, and they became obsolete. Sort of like a rock/paper/scissors thing.... but I agree, let us all enjoy robot on monster battles and not worry about the tactical semantics
ELYSIUM - The good, I kept wondering if that was Sharlto Copley. And yup, it was him... another great acting from that guy. The bad, hmmm, while it's not a bad movie, I personally didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would. But you have to keep in mind that I don't really like shaky camera when doing action scenes. The story, while not necessarily bad, felt re-hashed and unoriginal. And then there is this...
Spoiler (Click in box to read)
guy gets 3 quarters of his face blown off but it gets reconstructed and he gets to live while someone more "important" who got shot or stab are declared deceased right away with no attempts to resurrect.

Blades weren't that powerful- in the later fight, Gipsy's big swords got stuck in Scunner's armor, and then again in Slattern's. The blades weren't lightsabers, Kaiju armor worked great against them... and remember that kaiju that burst through the wall? It was nothing but armor, ironically the swords would've sucked hard against it, you'd hit nothing vital.
Also you'd have some issue with spilling Blue... though of course, Crimson Typhoon used superheated buzzsaws which were pretty effective (not sure why you think they'd only be good against an immobile target, Otachi had a bunch of big cuts on her for the rest of the fight and that was after only about 3-4 seconds of attacking). And one of the Jaegers in the opening flashbacks had two big blade arms. It didn't make it til the last missions, which says something.
And Cherno's fists were giant blunt weapons ^^ Well, ditto most of the fists, especially of the rocket variety... Otachi being hit by the big boat didn't phase it for long, so I don't think that'd be too decisive either. Impact seemed to work better against Leatherback than Otachi.
Different Kaiju had different strengths and weaknesses. Some of them, a blade is great. Others, the armor makes them not-so-good and you're better off punching a few times to set up your plasma gun shot or chest missiles or whatever.
The Jaegers were designed with a variety of weapons due to them fighting a variety of foes.
