I don't think I've ever run a long curve deck with less than 6x 4-drops. Short curve (topping out at 5) would probably run only 4x 4-drops and 2 or 3 5-drops.
Additional search cards would probably thin out my higher drops but those are utility slots. Nowadays, there isn't just one 4, 5 or 6-drop you would run, so the search has 2 main objectives, to get the drop you'll miss or to get the drop you need (even though you may already have that turn drop in-hand).

Hehe...Glad someone caught the Gizmo. Just trying to lighten the mood here. Everyone seems to want to kill eachother, and that's sad panda time. :cry:
I agree with pretty much all that you have listed. I was trying to look at the "average" I suppose, which would factor in the trend towards short curves. Unless the deck has some sort of trick to get to the later turns, I don't assume I will even get to play my 6-8 drops anyway.
I'd say somewhere between our two examples is probably spot on.
