Before, some paid for candy and got it, and others didn’t pay and didn’t get it. Now the rest are getting candy for free, while those who paid before are still paying for it. That’s a bad thing, yes.
I'd argue that the last couple of years, candy has been given out for free indiscriminately to where it lost all meaning. let's face it, no dial from the past 4 years actually took a cost hit due to indomitable
"I remember you said to me once, you said... 'if death ever comes your way and won't let you pass... make sure you scream right back in his face"
You keep telling yourself that. From now on Hercules will have trouble lifting a coffee table. THAT is the Heroclix of the future.
No, it isn't actually. Who's to say they won't make a Hercules with Superstrength a few sets down the line...? There's nothing stopping them, if anything there is more incentive to do so. Plus, I already have a Hercules with Superstrength that I can use in any of my future games.
This hits home, and I truly get where you are coming from... but, I've had 4 other avatar campaigns bear fruit, so I'd count my blessings. At the end of the day WizKids doesn't owe me anything. I do not feel entitled, and if I'm coming off nonchalant, please forgive me, as I'm just trying to be the voice of reason on these boards. Some people are going way overboard. Lashing out is out of control. Some people just need to sit back, relax and chill out a bit.
Now, I prefer the game the way it is without the upcoming changes too. However, I choose to be patient, take it in stride, and just keep supporting the game I love because, frankly (for me) it beats the alternative.
It can be hard to stay positive, try not to let the negativity of this place or your feelings towards the new rule changes drag you down. Maybe we all need to vent, but eventually we all just need to settle down and just decide quietly to play or not to play.
i appreciate you, timo, you know i do (here comes the) but if we just quietly accept things we really don't like then nothing changes. if we just quietly leave the game, they won't know why and without feedback will continue in a direction hurting their product and not understand why.
it's the dog in the fire meme, "this is fine"
the frustrations with the company exceeds the fun i have with the product. we all have different thresholds. this is it for me. and between the alternative of a castrated version of the game limping along and continuing to frustrate me, or calling it and enjoying what was with what i have, i don't think the alternative is preferable. ymmv, but mine doesn't
I've written for RPG's and helped with board and table top design and "We're not ready to release these powers" is..what's a polite way of saying "Hokum".
In the time it took get all that presentation material available the problem could have been worked out.
What they want is to take those powers out and see how much of a kickback it causes, if its met with too much resistance they'll back down.
If they feel like they can steamroll over the objections they'll give a little giggle and they'll get a few years of pawning off lazy dials and stripping the tactical edge from the game until people get sick of it and then they'll expect congratulations for fixing what they've broken.
....Unless of course they've utterly underestimated the state of play, the consumers, the pandemic and people financial positions and Heroclix goes under.
But you see, even if WizKidz loses Heroclix I seriously doubt that'll be the end of our little hobby.
Look at how long Heroclix has been around, someone ( possibly a BETTER run company, with magical things like "Customer Service" & "Quality Control" ) is going to pick it up.
It might have a different distribution, it might not have as much product released as often. Heck, it might bounce between a couple of companies before it settles down.
Look at Battle-Tech, wow that's been a rocky road, but like a cork on troubled waters it keeps bobbing back up.
So I choose to stand up for what I think is right for the game, rather than give into fear and desperation and just accept whatever we're given with a "Thank you sir, may I have another". .
Heroclix means a lot to me, more than I can easily express or anyone would want to hear about but that also means I have to want and expect more for the game than simply "Existing".
To me that is being positive.

And in the “since no one asked me department” I’m just fine with the rules changes. Pushing damage going away actually makes me happy. This is a game with SUPER heroes and villains. Some superheroes climb to the top of a building and then.....have to hurt themselves to throw a punch after they climb it? #♂️
Some of the power loss is tough, but I’m going to chose to see how it plays before making a decision and wait and see if they really are just benched or if they come back before making assumptions.
Accessibility is the name of the game here and at the end of the day if all these moves are made in the name of getting us MORE players and expanding the community if OK with that. After all, that’s my goal with every video series. To expand the reach of the game and to expand the life of this game we love.
Metas evolve, strategies change, what was good for the game before may no longer be good for it, we won’t know unless we try. Keep sharing your opinions, but please be respectful if possible. Gotta lotta love for this game and all y’all.
They can't make excuses for recycling maps, it costs the same amount to reprint an old map as to print a new one.
And you can't convince me that designing a new map is a measurable cost, heck if they can't be bothered hold a fan design contest and steal....I mean "Allow the winner to have their map published".
Can you imagine how fun and creative dials we could get if they allowed like 5 fan made dials per set? There are definitely some creators on the Realms who could bring a new light to the design process.
Thanks Scott, I've been echoing your statements for a while now. It's been a rough few days around here on the Realms, that's for sure.
Oh, and TKD actually got me thinking about his Will Payton hypothetical today, and the more I thought about it the more it makes me want to buy in and stick with the game, if just to help see the 80's Starman get made.
For all we know, he may already be in this Wonder Woman set...!!!

I super excited to see more pieces getting a buff with pushing damage going away. It will open up some attractive options for people that were on the fence for pieces that didn't have either Indomitable or Will Power.
As for the powers, so long as they come back in later sets (which is what I got from reading the article) I think I will be fine with those changes. I would definitely like to play with the pieces before I make a final judgement though.
I appreciate the sentiment about SUPER heroes and villains not hurting themselves taking two actions in a row, but SUPER heroes and villains wouldn’t rest every third turn either. That is, limiting actions and creating consequences for pushing have always been arbitrary from a “realism” standpoint.
They have, however, been important to a turn-based strategy game. If removing negative choices is the reason for the changes, allow every figure to act each round. Better yet, allow a player to use all his figures each turn instead of having to choose which to use and which to bench. Let them enjoy all the benefits of a swarm team.
So far, these changes look like is a different kind of arbitrary, not a plan that serves their claimed goal.
