I like the choice of Slam for Petey, it gives that Colossus feel.
Can't Disgrace The X-Men Or Myself!, always nice to see a "Human" click on Petey's dial and it reflects his ability to heal himself by transforming.
Also Petey's a healthy boy, even in flesh and blood he's still pretty formidable.

that's definitely what i was going for. the ol' vulnerable spot to hit refresh. so his rookie dial rehashes the full price. you'll note he maintains the plasticity in his human form. pete is still pete even while he has flesh of flesh. big heart on that lad
and that heart was on display against the champion, even as he lost. badly. yeah walter took a hard ko blow he walked into, but piotr was beaten so badly the referee stepped in and stopped the fight. oof. the story really played up his youth and inexperience, like it was giving him the out. they clearly wanted him to be able to grow into the role of the big boys but of all the reasons to lose from the silly to the technical, letting pete get beat for being green let him show a mini version of the main story in the thing. and i can appreciate that
his dial is fairly simple, a signature move and an sp. albeit, a kind of complex signature move. reversal is a free action, so getting to pull it off on top of whatever else he intends greatly softens the blow of needing to retaliate and only against a limited pool. but it also helps that he isn't softening his blow, but getting to crank up that return fire proportional to whatever he's reduced. it was the occam's razor of the included gif (thank you, contest of champions) and made for a fun dynamic of making the reducer offensive. translating the smart of the impact and/or the shock of the shrug-off as a heftier blow from the soviet strongman will ensure that your position on the dial matters more and the refresh effect in his dial flow more significant in letting his mid and late dial contribute more
i agree on slam for piotr. he's a grappler. plus russian wrestlers is such a trope. when they put petey in the trunks, i always liked that as his second-best look and it was an early include for him here just for that sculpt possibility, even before the challenge of the champion got fleshed out as a full subtheme

Still my favorite of Simon's costumes....of course when you consider what they stuck him in for most of the early West Coast Avengers run his good costumes really stand out!
This is a great take on the "Self Doubting" Wonder Man of the interim years.
What's My Motivation?, how could you not choose to go with the extra 25 point option, its worth it for the alpha strike protection alone!
Best Supporting Actor: of course this is my favorite starting line, but I've always loved Simon and Hank together. The fact that Simon has never made his way into the X-books is a mystery to me. How could you resist the chance to inject that kind of energy to the often staid Hank that's occupied those books.
Stunt Double: Now I want to play this starting line with the Shifting Focus Vision, that a lot of stomping for a small point cost!
Leading Lady: well at least we know that Simon can support his leading lady and handing out Super Senses to both Wanda and himself makes it a true temptation.
I hate to say it, but it also captures Simon's tendency to well...fold at this point in his story. Truly one of the mightiest Avengers ( in potential ) his issues crippled him when he lost confidence.
As long as his confidence is high he's swinging with the champs, but when he loses it, he tends to panic and at the very least lose his edge.
I am glad he eventually got over his problems....I mean being buried alive ( kinda ), being a zombie ( kinda ), dying again ( kinda ), learning that you're not really human anymore.
It took him some time but he came back....until they started messing with him AGAIN.
Poor Simon, who would have thought that his brother would end up being the LEAST of his problems.

yeah, gladiator gets the rep for confidence, but it definitely was hit or miss with simon in the '80s. that was definitely on display in the champion battle. feeling the immense pressure of the fate of the world on his or benjy's shoulders, he snapped in the fight and started ripping up the ring (hence proja's disqualified trigger). like you said, it's fortunate that he finally worked through that by going through some seriously rough stuff. ah "character development."
as far as "dial development" is concerned, simon was the very last dial i designed, and probably the last one i will. i decided to go whole hog into his relationships and that was the creative nudge i needed to rework the set to get all the challenge of the champion contenders in here, converting an already substantial LE section into a bona fide gravity feed to accommodate (please and thank you, previous set sculpt reuse). but for accuracy sake i needed to make sure simon was in the set proper to get an original sculpt in the safari jacket. because, heckin' yeah, that was his svelte digs to the nines! allen ludden would have been so proud . i've been trying to convince the baroness impossible to let me pull of a safari jacket of my own, so everyone talk about how cool it is
anyway, back to the dial. simon was really defined by those interpersonal relationships, more so than most. and getting some cheesy use of hollywood lingo to flavor things was all the more fun for me as you get to pick, based on your force and your opponent's force, whether to play up his best bud, his brother from another motherboard, or the gal of his dreams. the starting lines are all the same save the bonus you get (other than a judicious flip from empower to enhancement with wanda) so it's really whom you want to pal around with most to determine your extra offense, support or defense for the dial. it was a fun alternative to the usual costed format for me and the alternative starting line schtick gives you the extra oomph before he falls apart. literally. he's made of ions. whatever that means

yes, sir! that was the plan. and grabbing a sculpt for namor? fuhhgeddaboutit! hands down the best (water down?)
truth be told, embarrassingly i have to admit i had actually forgotten i had made a namor for this set . that's why he's here at the end of the subtheme instead of right after doc samson when he got disqualified from the event due to refusing to fight for once in his life . but it all works out anyway, he's got the interaction medley to pair with wonder man and works to segue smoothly into the squadron supreme subtheme (say that 5 times fast)
it was his ignoble encounter with the squadron that gave me the push to try for another namor dial after having made him in avengers forever. besides, the completionist in me was unsettled to leave things undone. so this dial takes a bit of flavor from marvel two in 1 annual #7, but is largely based on his incursion story arc where he destroyed the earth-4290001 and the fallout from that in squadron supreme vol 4. given the illuminati/cabal emphasis, the rather unorthodox click 7 came on board, but i also (me being me) decided to try to make a namor for all occasions. and once i gave him team player ta because of all his associations, i started to think about him getting different bonuses for those, too. taking a page from dark_knight's awesome theme-team based trigger, i laid it out for all those juicy KWs he gets. i tried to balance it out and make sensible choices. atlantis leadership is obvious, avengers ps because he's more focused there, cabal got bcf to let him pull out the trident, defenders wp due to that being his biggest association letting him take a central heroic role, illuminati perplex for all the megalomaniacal conspiracy, invaders flurry for him going all out for victory , latveria ew shows his more underhanded villainous side, and xmen sidestep was mostly to help him pull of the ta more easily
getting him to literally play differently on his many named themes should increase his replay value and that's something i like providing my hypothetical customers. more bang for your buck has always been a goal of mine

I see we're opening up with the heroic version of Hyperion and you've truly captured the full power of ersatz Superman!
Utopia Program: I always found it amusing that the team most susceptible to mind control basically decided to use it to solve their problems....I mean they had to know the down sides of that going forward....right?
The Strongest Man In The Known Universe: Yup, that's some real Superman levels of power. I like the carry option in particular, but the dual object attack versus a truly hardened target ( special defenses and the like ) is going to be an awesome strike. The kind of thing that you can talk about for ages after.
A character that isn't overpowered but gives that truly epic feel is always an accomplishment.
I Propose We Dedicate Ourselves To Remaking The World: Would it be out of turn to say that my favorite part of this is your acknowledgement that the Squadron can be its own worst enemy?

I should first add that I like the 2x pictures - one for the sculpt and one as flavor. This is a nice addition to this set.
Marvel Boy - I had totally forgotten about his appearance in UCWF.
This dial is spot on. I love the slam with the 6 reach. The ability to jump off the ropes without the ropes is another great tweak on the power that captures the character so well.
