If that was an out-of-the-blue one for me, referencing Paoli, PA, that's only about 16 miles from me... though it's been a while since I've headed in that direction.

It was actually directed to TaT, about Paoli, IN...
I get there every week or two. We often grocery shop there, or at the very least our Veterinarian is there, and our dog has been having some health problems. So yeah, we get there often enough.

I remember Harmon Killebrew. There was a slugger. His grandfather was considered the strongest man in the Union army during the Civil War.
Tony Oliva shows up at our Air Guard base once in a while. I never have the opportunity to take his picture, though. Never have my phone on me at the time.

Welcome JD. Feel free to jump in any time. The ogres are pretty tame around here, and they like to chat.

I thought they only perused this thread out of morbid curiosity.
Since he's an admitted Celtics fan, kfrog71 undoubtedly thinks so...
Hey, I almost jumped out of my jammies when I saw that. "The Hick from French Lick." Dude, Bird was great! The images of him working out by running up and down the steps in the old Garden are indellibly etched into my mind.
I was a gym rat back in the day at the Boys and Girls Club and spent a LOT of time in there on my own working on my game. I understand what it means to be in the gym alone with a basketball and running drills- it is almost a cathedral of sorts.
I do not beleive in idolatry and would never place anyone on a pedastal but do feel that I have something in common with Bird. Him on those steps and me running suicide drills on my own and spending hours working on my dribbling skills.
It is also interesting to mention how Bird was always very blue collar. If he wasn't a pro, he still would be back home riding on the back of a garbage truck.

I gotta be honest... I've never skied. And with Paoli Peaks just a 15 minute drive away, I really have no excuse. I'm sure, one of these days, I'll get over there to give it a shot.

I've lived here 10 years, and we usually see Larry around town once or twice a year. Or at least we hear about him being around. There is a great little restaurant/sports bar in town that he has donated a good bit of memorabilia to. And as he has quite the reputation around here as liking to partake in the drink, he can usually be found there when in town.

He was quite the drinker when he was in Boston too! There are many stories...
