Back in the REV days, this wasn't as much of a problem. If you get a good Vet, it totally made up for not getting a unique. It also helps if you're new. I remember when I started, I got a Vet Electro from Sinister. I was SO happy. Someone I knew from the cartoons who was a good piece, and he looked awesome. Nowadays, I'd look and see that he's only an Uncommon by rarity standards, and might feel sorta ripped off.
I agree with you completely, players often feel that they're ripped off if they don't get at least a SR in each pack (myself often included). Its just the mentality that Wizkids/NECA has helped to create by putting an emphasis on Chases and SRs. So really, only 3-4 out of 10 packs in a brick are worth it, and the rest is filler. That's not how it should be.
All agreed.
I was trying to get that point across about one of the strengths of the REV days -- really just a matter of the set's size -- that meant more of a sense of value held up over the course of pack-buying because we were mostly looking at both extras and non-uniques we needed, so there was much more room for trading. With the smaller sets the CUR portion is completed so much more quickly and easily that almost no one's looking for those pieces (with a few special exceptions maybe) after the first week. Too quickly, all of the value disappears into those high-end rarities, and to not pull one has someone looking at maybe a couple dollars worth of figures - if he can even find a buyer - he's just traded in roughly $12 for. It's a better situation than a scratch-off lottery ticket but only in the sense that the odds for some pay-off are better and you still physically have something with the booster.
I wouldn't have felt like I wasted my money. But the SR certainly helps matters.
It was your first pack, so, no, but I still think the problem of rarity in these sets is still a problem. They're working on it - trying to spread it around a bit more - but after the first several packs and especially after the first brick, most of the boosters that are opened that don't contain and SR or chase start to become deflating experiences. At that point generics are the only fall-back consolation.
Has anyone ever had trouble getting their donorship to work?
Aside from waaaay back, the first time I did it there being a delay (some ultimately minor problem that Typhon took care of quickly once he was aware of it) -- no.
On a side note, with seeing most of the offers I'm getting involving CapWolf, I'm getting the feeling that I overestimated what his trade value would be. That, and new generations of Chases don't seem to carry the same value they used to.
Chases definitely don't have the same value they once did. I guess time will tell with these. Will they be an anomaly and keep a high price? Maybe. I'm expecting them to settle around $60 though which makes me happy so I can trade off some of my older figures for them like KC Supes, KC Green Lantern, etc. It's sad though, in the beginning, when people are expecting to get $150 for a Chase. Someone I know tried to trade his Capwolf for my Zombie Hulk. He cited Ebay for the price of the Capwolf, but I just laughed since he has no problem ensuring the trade is lopsided in his favor...frequently.

Now I feel a bit better.
There there... *pats on back* it will be okay. Just stay here in Ogreland.
But in all seriousness, I understand what you're saying. I can only imagine what some of these poor souls are like in person.

Well I just pm'ed Typhon. I can't help but think there is something I goofed up. I consider myself a computer retard basically. It's pretty sad actually.

I can't say that I'm upset with that shift, though I suspect enough may be that Wizkids may decide to veer back towards choices to raise the profile of future ones. If the feedback is strong enough that what we're seeing here isn't raising excitement and driving sales, they'll shift to one of the models that did.
Maybe the best solution is to continue to choose special, short-duration/event-specific incarnations of main characters as the subjects, but to give them loaded, chase dials. That is to say, do what they did with the specialty Spideys in WoS, all of which were obviously designed to be chases even if they opted to turn them into just more SRs by production time. Of course, then that brings the complaints about over-powered, expensive pieces skewing venue play. Personally, I'm much more comfortable with that than I am with them going for more sought-after characters as choices, but I don't have the problem of having to deal with a venue scene. Still, venues can control such things.
Something like Capwolf (and, I say this just now realizing I've yet to look at his dial or even see a picture of him) are like Hulk Spidey and the zombies, weird variants that are probably better dealt with by a scenario or ::gasp:: Event Dial that would allow everyone to play. With that in mind I'm much more interested in playing with Nightshade's Werewolf Serum SP than I would be in a piece representing Cap's altered form from a very brief storyline.
Next time you wanna make someone pause while they're telling you something you don't wanna hear, just say to them to put it in their prison wallet. I love the puzzling looks I get from people when I say it!!!

A friend of mine is a guard in a maximum security prison. It's absolutely appalling what I hear the inmates do. It takes a special temperament to be able to do that work. All the **** you have to put up with, both literally and figuratively is inconceivable.
I don't see it hitting the front page or GD yet, but I'm sure it soon will, Presumably all of us who were signed up at one time for Heroclix Online have just received emails: Heroclix Online Fight Night Weekend.
Basically it's a series of two-booster buy-in events running Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with War, Pestilence and Famine as the main prizes (and a random door prize each day), along with clixbux.
So, I wonder if this will be one of or the only way these are getting broader distribution? It's no upset for me -- they were pegged as prize LEs from the start, so I would have been shocked if they became available under other circumstances (shy of the secondary market, of course) and so had put them out of my mind.

I just read the email. Way to make me want to actually waste time with this, Wizkids. (I won't actually waste time with this, though...way too hectic)
However, I will say they weren't prize figs initially, they were exclusive Super Booster content IIRC.

Ah! I wasn't sure that they'd been meant to be there, though it makes sense given the original Super Booster plans versus what we saw in the set.
Still, I was just referring to their official plans, and how when these were announced for the summer cons we were told they'd become available more widely later in the year.
