Situation came up today was this: My esteemed foe's Sentinel captured my SOD Supes. The only two characters I had that could do the rescue attempt was Amazo and KC Shazam. My esteemed foe claimed I could not do an HSS ranged attack to make the rescue. Is this true, or did my opponent crack his head open in the shower that morning? To rephrase: Can I use an HSS ranged attack to free a captured figure?
Nope, you can't use HSS, Running Shot or Charge to make a rescue attempt. A rescue attempt requires a power action, as do all of the above. The power action you take to rescue then allows you to make a ranged or close combat attack that causes no damage and if successful frees the captured figure.
But that's the thing, if u read the PAC on HSS, it says: "(1) When you give this character a move action...This character recieves one free action during it's movement that it may use to make a close combat or ranged combat attack..."
Where is it defined as a power action?
Mon
In the Big Fig rules it notes that a rescue attempt is now a power action and is no longer the results of a successful attack. When you do the Rescue Power Action it lets you do a close or range combat attack that deals no damage but frees the captive.
Hypersonic Speed is a move action that allows a free close or range combat attack. It does not allow you to use any other actions during the move so you would not be able to make a rescue attempt (a power action)
Hope that helps

You still can't take two non-free actions in a turn. So they're not both power actions: HSS is a move action and Rescue is a power action.
You still don't get a free power action from HSS, so you can't attempt a rescue, much like you can't HSS and RCE or HSS and Quake or HSS and Exploit Weakness.
From the Sentinal rules:
Rescuing Captured Characters
If a character is captured, other members of that character’s force may attempt to rescue that character. To make a rescue attempt, give a character a power action and make a close or ranged combat attack against
the big figure Sentinel. If successful, the attack deals no damage, but the captive character is released in any square adjacent to the big figure Sentinel with one action token on it.
Miscommunication! It kills us all! I see what u guys are saying. What happened was, the way it was explained to me was mis-worded. I was under the impression that I couldn't do it because HSS was considered a power action, which is not entirely correct.
*SIGH*
Anybody remember when we played this game WITHOUT 756 rules questions??
