Game Designer Note Cable’s Rookie version represents some of his earliest appearances in comics. He’s good, but no one’s really sure how good. I wanted to make sure the Rookie dial was a good representation of the early appearances of the character, so even though he’s very mobile, he’s also not quite as strong as his other versions. He can move in and out of trouble easily, and he’s able to deal good damage, but he also plays a decent support role if you need it. His later versions are much more offensive; able to move and shoot, while also using Outwit to take opponents down a peg or two. On the Expereinced and Veteran versions I wanted to make sure the character was well-represented as his backstory and powers became more well-defined. He’s still the same character, and has abilities that are consistent from one version to the next, but I made sure to add his Telekinesis on his Experienced version and then make it a bit more reliable and useful in his Veteran version. Each is useful as a ranged combatant, but can also play a support role at the right spots of his dial.
Playtip And the role of mobile shooter in Mutant Mayhem goes to... Cable! All three versions start the in basically the same manner: move and shoot. Rookie has Phasing with a Speed of 10, while Experienced and Veteran versions have Running Shot. He starts with Outwit on all his versions, so use that to cut through a defensive power or weaken an opponent's heavy hitter. Two clicks in, it switched to Ranged Combat Expert, effectively boosting his Damage by one, so don't be afraid to take a hit - or a push. The Rookie gets late-dial Incapacitate, and the Experienced gets a little Telekinesis towards the end. The Veteran - appropriately re-dubbed "Soldier X" - sports the highest attack value (11) and gets his Telekinesis earlier, and keeps his Ranged Combat Expert longer. Using Cable / Soldier X is pretty simple: keep him mobile, and keep him firing that big gun. His point value may only make him more attractive in higher-point games, but he's devastating in a Battle Royale, so beware if you pass him to your left in such an event!

They say the best weapon is one you never have to fire. I respectfully disagree. I prefer the weapon you only have to fire once. That's how Dad did it, that's how America does it, and it's worked out pretty well so far." Robert Downey/Tony Stark
No reference to defensive stuff whatsoever...sounds like this one was just thrown together. Maybe the dial isn't ready yet or they may be changing it or something. Doesn't sound as definite to me as the others.
Definitely sounds useful from the description. As Cable I'm a little iffy on the sculpt, but I'm certainly going to be popping an extra off the dial and using him for a Necromunda gang.
hmm, no sure what to think at this point. i was hoping for a big "wow" when i saw cable. no big on the sculpt. don't know what it is. the stats aren't clear yet, but i like the sound of it. seems very playable. i'm sure i'll be more excited when his stats are released.
It does seem to be less dynamic (and lighter of frame) than I'd expected, but the designer notes promise an interesting dial. Not much to look at based on this shot, but a useful addition to the X-teams.
