Nah, you can't. Mastermind says "when this character is the target of a successful attack..." If Doom MM's onto Red skull, he has to take it like the ####, skull-faced little man that he is.
Actually, MM says "when this character is dealt damage" so theoretically it should work, and you should in theory be able to MM earthquake damage as well.

For knockback, it is actually a little more vague than that.

The only FAQ that mentions an attack is:

If a character is KOd by damage dealt through the Mastermind power, it is considered to have been KOd by the character that made the attack.
(Which should probably be adjusted to account for the fact that MM damage does not have to come from an attack.)
That all said, MM does not require an attack for activation. It just requires damage to be dealt.
