Okay so this line of questions all have to do with a double based figure placed diagonally and the two opposite diagonal squares:
Example:
AB
BA
The double based figure is in the two "B" squares, these questions are about the two "A" squares in the above example
Are these two squares considered adjacent for purposes of movement?
Can a Friendly figure more between those two squares?
If an opposing figure without any special movement powers were in one of those squares and rolled breakaway, could they begin their movement by moving on the diagonal to the other "A" square and continue on?
For purposes of Base to Base Combat are these two squares considered Adjacent? That is to say, can two opposing figures in the "A" squares attack one another?
If they can't what about Quake? Would it then affect the other figure in the other "A" square?
If those squares are considered adjacent, could someone put smoke or a barrier right across the center of the Double based figure? If this happened I would assume that the double based figure could still move it's other half that is on the other side of the barrier?!?
Also regarding Double Based figures:
You must place them entirely on the same elevation. How about the two squares which change elevation on a staircase? Should there be a little FAQ action to cover that situation as well.
I'd appreciate some official clarification on how these things will work. I don't want to go to the Fantastic Forces Premier or Marquee events and get in a silly rules dispute with someone. Could these questions get hashed out and FAQed before those events?

In general no, but it depends on whos moving.
Can a Friendly figure more between those two squares?
Yes. Friendly figures can always move through other friendly figures.

Opposing figures cannot move through non-friendly figures, so no they'd have to hike around the double based figure
For purposes of Base to Base Combat are these two squares considered Adjacent? That is to say, can two opposing figures in the "A" squares attack one another?
My guess NO. But a FAQ should be made to handle this as this will most likely be asked very often.
If they can't what about Quake? Would it then affect the other figure in the other "A" square?
Again, no. The double based figure should be "blocking" this.

Smoke cloud would be fine, a Barrier on the other hand shouldn't be allowed like this.

as stated you just won't be able to put them there. You'll need to stay off the elevated square or ajust so you end up all on. Don't see any reason this needs to be FAQed.

I may not be hair10, but I think I've got a handle on this game.

The two A squares are not adjacent.

Can a Friendly figure more between those two squares?
A friendly fig could as they can move through squares occupied by other friendlies.

If you mean could the other A square be counted as their first move, not unless they were a flier, using LC, Phasing, etc. You can't move through enemy fig bases.

Nope.

Hmmm.. although Quake is close combat, they technically aren't adjacent. I'd have to say no.

Barrier, no... but Smoke Cloud yes since a Smoke Cloud can be placed in a square with a fig.

Placing them there is fine.

Double base on a diagnal is adjacent to all the A's right?
Correct.

Yes.

They are adjacent for all purposes.

Originally posted by King Doom so wouldnt that prevent a double base figure from occupying both of those squares, as they re different elevations?
Since they are adjacent this would let a double base character be on both. This is an exception to the rule.

From the FAQ on Stairs:
Th[e top] square of stairs is considered adjacent to the second-to-last square, even though the terrain exists on two different elevations.
Originally posted by Psylockeslover Though I can see why people would be confused, since the DB rules state that DB figs cannot be on 2 different elevations.....
Yes, well... I think sometimes people look too closely at the rule and tend to forget their common sense.
Figure half on elevated terrain and half on grounded... no that doesn't make sense.
Figure half on top square of stairs and half on next square of stairs... yep, that makes sense.

Rules suggestion:
When you make two statements that conflict. It can sometimes be a point of confusion as to which rule takes precedence over the other. What we are talking about here is a prime example:
Rule 1 > "Double based figures can't be placed on two different elevations".
Rule 2 > "The top two squares of stairs are considered adjacent even though they are different elevations."
In this case in can be confusing as to which rule takes precedence. Now if rule 1 were rewritten or FAQed to say:
Reworded rule 1> "Double base figure figures can't be placed on different elevations with the exception of the top two squares of a staircase."
Now it is pretty much impossible for there to be confusion on this.
Also on the Confusion Front: Hair10, when you answered my questions, you started off by answering "No" to my question about the two opposite squares being considered adjacent for movment purposes. Then you went on to say that Friendly figures can move between those two squares since they can move through friendly figures. I realize your intent is good, but that is sort of another conflicting rule situation that could cause problems. I would suggest a more clear choice of wording/rulings on this situation as well:
Example: If you made the following rulings:
Rule 1> Figures may enter squares occupied by friendly figures but my not end their movement in such squares.
and
Rule 2> When a double based figure is placed diagonally the two opposite diagonal squares are no longer considered adjacent.
That is much simpler. What that does is in this case:
12
34
And lets say the diagonal figure is in squares 1 and 4. No movement would be allowed between squares 2 and 3 directly, but friendly figures could move from square 3 through either squares 1 or 4 and then on to square 2. It would also prevent both Barriers and Smoke from being placed directly across those two squares....but that's not a horrible inconvenience. And Quake in square 2 would not affect square 3. I'm just thinking those simple wordings/rulings would be simpler to understand and lead to less difficult situations.
