Now this is probably kinda stupid, but since flyers can make ranged attacks in base-to-base, could you use running shot to base an opponent and then make the ranged attack against him?
anyway, any help would be great.

A flyer could do that as long as it could draw LOF to that target. ie: the target is not stealthed. (Obviously the flyer has range on the target since the target is one square over and the flyer has a range greater than 0.)
