heroquest Are there any plans to make corrections to the existing rules (such as Outwit, TK or Support)?
Seth It'll only be a matter of weeks before you get your first look at the rulebook that will be coming out with Icons. You'll see that while wording has changed to clarify the rules, there aren't many actual rules CHANGES. So to answer your question: not in the near future.

SuperGENE104 How will the new maps be distributed by Approved Play?
Magister We'll be providing our judges with quantities of the maps. We've produced many more maps than we have registered players so our judges should have no problem getting all the maps they need.

SLVRSR4 Are the increased Unique distributions going to KILL secondary market sales?
BrandJames We don't think the new unique distribution will kill the secondary market. It will probably have some impact and the market may take a little time to adjust.

Magister Scenarios, yes. New Guy Night, however, is intended to bring more players into retail stores.

Seth Our current plan is to stabilize our release schedule at 3 booster expansions per year.

BrandJames booster releases will standardize on 12 uniques per set

Carter It seems like that would be a strong likelihood based on their popularity but I haven't heard anything yet

Seth We definitely want players to have some input into what characters become figures. Polls such as the ones we've done in the past are definitely a possibility--and there are others. Stay tuned.

dorwaystudios Will the ClixBrix LEs be similar to the current LEs (e.g. Gold Ring versions of REVs with different dials) or will they be new SCULPTS, FIGURES and DIALS?
Carter Definitely new dials. Sometimes new sculpts/figures of the the more mainstay characters.

Snatreaper What will the figure distribution be like in a ClixBrick (since with a whole case we can sort of almost plan on getting 8 Uniques)?
BrandJames We can't make any promises due the vagaries of the production process, but based on mathmatical averages a ClixBrick should contain 4 uniques.

SCIONofDARKSEID What are the odds of us seeing an Apokalips based set in an upcoming heroclix set?
Seth A New Gods / Fourth World set is a possibility, although it might be a while. But there are things in the pipeline already that I think will keep you happy until when and if that happens.

Puuka Will HC become a ranked game like MK and MW?
Magister We have no plans in that direction. We're committed to keeping HeroClix focused on fun over competition; granted that's easier said than done, but we don't want to encourage a competitive focus.

BrandJames Financially, IndyClix booster releases are not viable. However, we realize how much HeroClix fans want them. We have come up with a wildstorm of ideas on how to make Indy characters available.

aeleona Would you consider giving abilities more than one color so that a figure could have say, Will Power and Toughness or some combination like so?
Seth Probably not. HeroClix is riding the crest of complexity already, and adding multiabilities such as you suggest might push it too far.

Scud6 For future sets, will there be a limited number of giant/transporter figs or is FF an one- shot deal?
Seth I would love to make DC giant and transporter figs in particular, but we have to wait until we see how Fantastic Forces does before we could commit to a large group like that again. But if there's another way to get them out there before then, you can bet I'll take advantage of it.

Wakrob Are the 24x36 maps double sided?
Carter One side of the map is a blank grid to create your own scenarios.

Sazabi recently (prior to Fantastic Forces) a vote took place for the next piece to appear in a Heroclix set...if I recall Cannonball and Wendigo won the vote...are they to appear in Armor Wars?

Seth Consider it debunked. DC and Marvel have a certain of input into which version of characters are done, but beyond that the characters tend to dictate the design.

Seth It's not impossible that Bi-Beast might appear in a set, but he does have an apartment in Unlikelyville.

Carter Definitely! Favorites of the players are also favorites of ours. We want to see them too.

oldut Why the move to smaller maps?
Magister There's quite a list of reasons--first, they're easier to produce, which means we can get them out there to everyone; second, they're easy to laminate. Top that off with the fact that they don't have a significant impact on gameplay (just speeding it up a little) and it was a bit of a no-brainer, these maps are designed for head to head matches only, and you'll have to play with the long side of the map between you and your opponent. These are not for Battle Royales, then, but they're great for standard games.

Shellhead27 Becasue upcoming sets are going to be more "theme based", roughly what percentage of the characters in this new set can we expect to relate to the "Armor Wars" story?
Seth There are a number of characters from Iron Man in general, if not Armor Wars in particular. But (despite the set's name) to think of the "theme" of a HeroClix set as limited to a single storyline is thinking too narrowly.

Magister We're working on shaking things up a little with the prize kits going forward. We'll be expanding to participation prizes for some events and second place or other additional prizes aren't out of the question.

BrandJames no, but mathmatically it is highly probable.

shockmanx What are the chances of lesser known characters like the Runaways, Slingers, ect to be made? What factors add in to a lesser known figures chance of being made?
Seth There's always room for more obscure figures in a set. At least one went into testing a few weeks ago that shocked playtesters. But that said, there may only be one (or maybe two) slots for that kind of character in a set.

Wyldstaar You stated that set themes would not only regard the characters chosen, but their sculpts as well. Could you please elaborate?
Carter If there was a particular costume appearance for character or a character's first appearance that fits into the chosen theme, then it will most likely make it into the set.

boneyard What does it take to make the move outta Unlikelyville?
Seth A large truck and some good friends. I suggest bribing them with pizza.

mecimcim Will venues start getting full orders? My venue only got a 1/2 of case of FF.
BrandJames Our distributors are ultimately responsible for getting product to the stores. We have heard a number of complaints regarding this issue and we are looking for ways to improve the system.

hesster56 As to the aforementioned 3 expansions per year, will that be total or 3 Marvel and 3 DC?
Magister 3 total.

Marlow How many ClixBrix LE's will there be per Set? i.e. How many brix do we have to buy to get the set?
Seth Buying one brick will get you the one ClixBrick figure that will be made per expansion.

GroovyBoy It sounds like players will need to buy less boosters to complete a set, thus lowering your profit margin. Where does WK plan to make up this money?
BrandJames Promotions like New Guy Night are designed to bring more players to the game. The improved ratios are designed to keep existing and new players around for a long time.

Butmac Does Wizkids feel a need to change some powers like Invulnerability and Impervious due to the increasing damage values?
Seth No. With the exception of language to clarify how they work, the powers on the Icons PAC will be very familiar to those who know the Universe PAC.

melantheus Will the case size stay the same with the addition of the bricks?
Magister Yes.

SLVRSR4 Are there any plans to make any more alternate team abilities, i.e Alpha flight, Exiles, New Mutants, NEW Avengers, Inhumans, A.I.M.?
Seth Yes.

Gemini77 Will the LE prizes for scenario events be related to the scenario?
Magister Not specifically. The scenarios, maps, and LEs will all tie into the set, but if you're thinking about a very direct and specific connection, not necessarily, but we're still working on future sets (obviously), and if there's room to tie things in more closely, we'll take what opportunities present themselves.

Buddyhoss Will there ever be generic figs (sculpted w/dials) again? Have you ever considered selling these figs in blister packs like the Sentinel?
Seth Yes, but they'll be generics in the sense that they'll be low point-cost figures that will be able to fielded in large numbers without offending people's sense of continuity. However, you won't see many boring Joe Q. Cop or Jane Criminal figures. They'll be the sort of generics that you see only in comic books.

azswhype What has Wizkids found to be the average age of their Heroclix players?
BrandJames 90% of HeroClix players who respond to our online surveys are 18 or older. This and future announcements will take this into account.

Your_Amish_Daddy Can you give any ETA on the release of how to obtain City of Villians clix?
Brother_Magneto We're planning on making the final announcement during Comic-Con next week.

JoshCrow Will Armor Wars feature any new powers or team abilities?
Seth No, although there will be alternate team abilities.

PaleRider So if I buy a full case of product, will I be able to send in for four of the exclusive figures?

manuelcp Will the ClixBrix LEs be part of the Envoy Reward System?
BrandJames There is a limit of one ClixBrick figure per household.
Magister The ClixBrix figures won't actually be LEs. These figures will be "Collectors Edition" pieces. We will be posting a clarification on this soon so the answer is no--these pieces will not be distributed through envoy rewards. They're intended to support brick and mortar retailers and are more closely a part of the retail set.

JoshCrow Sometimes characters like Scarlet Witch demonstrate a miscommunication between sculpt choice and the intended figure (Ultimate vs. 616 version). Is there hope this will no longer happen?
Carter There have been problems in the past as far as sculpt choice and licensor approval, but this has been addressed and should no longer be a problem.

LordMagnus Will the new maps have improved markings to clearly indicate what is hindering, water, blocking etc.?
Seth Yes. One of the places you will see rules 'changes' in Icons is to finally clean up how terrain and maps work in HeroClix. Among them is that different types of terrain will have clearly defined boundaries around them so that each square is clearly oen type of terrain or another. The boundaries open up some cool possibilities, too--including the ability to make Indoor/Outdoor maps for the first time. Plan on seeing one of those before the end of the year.

JadeSpider9643 Am I correct in assuming that a ClixBrick is not just a promotion but also a form of packing? Meaning that ALL the boosters in a case will be contained within 4 ClixBrick with no loose boosters?
BrandJames ClixBricks are a form of packing. Every case will contain 4 ClixBricks. Retailers can break the bricks to sell singles. A sale of 12 loose boosters counts as a ClixBrick sale. The retailer must give the consumer the brick insert order form to fill out and send in.

ClixCC Question for Seth: Every new set seems to outdo the previous in terms of power, and armies are more and more prone to contain "big guns". Are there any plans to improve figure synergy and "cooperation" as opposed to just pumping numbers?
Seth The power level of the game is something we're constantly keeping an eye on, though it's a very difficult thing to control.

BrandJames You can only be a New Guy only once. After that, you can bring your own New Guy to the next New Guy Night event.

Seth Yes, and they come from my department. Retirement allows us to keep the game environment balanced and (eventually) move out things that we believe might be causing problems. For instance, I don't think you'll be seeing bystander tokens with team abilities again anytime soon. And eventually there won't be any at all.

SockPuppet Are there plans to redesign the combat dial so that it will sport the "pie-wedge" slot similar to Mage Knight?

RangerRick Where is the largest base of players located?
Magister Roughly, our largest concentrations of players are located in the eastern half of the US.

Magister Each "New Guy" (or Gal... "New Person Night" just wasn't as catchy) will receive a free Universe starter. They'll be able to play with those pieces and their new swanky LE. So no purchase will be required from those folks.

Neptune1371 with game stores closing all over (3 in my town this year went under) is there going to be any other way for players to get maps and LE's other than at a store and ebay?
BrandJames Many of these promotions are designed to help game stores thrive so hopefully this problem will become more and more rare. We are also working on demo programs to help give envoys tools to get new people playing.

BADMOO Thanks for the smaller maps. Now they'll fit on our game tables. Can the envoys get a supply of counters, rings, etc... so when new people come to play they don't necessarily need to have a starter set?
Magister Well, they can get a free starter at New Guy Night. To answer your question, though, we are working on some ways of making supplies like this available to envoys and venues.

Cost: 10 pts
Pre-reqs: Damage value of 2 or lower
Assign the feat to a character. If this fig is adjacent to an object that is not being carried by another fig, you may give this fig a free action to remove the object from the game. Heal this character 2 damage.

Not an exact quote, but the general gist is pretty cool. Gives us a reason to pack "Rip it Up!" Hmm...I wonder if you can use this feat multiple times on a turn?

Also, Icons previews start tomarrow!

It wouldn't work with Rip It Up, actually - you have to be adjacent to the object - you can't be holding it... and you can't drop an object without destroying it.

Dissappointed to see the Venue Crew promotion eliminated. It really created some comraderie (sp?) between local players, while establishing friendly rivalries between cities in our state.

BrandJames Financially, IndyClix booster releases are not viable. However, we realize how much HeroClix fans want them. We have come up with a wildstorm of ideas on how to make Indy characters available.

Seth Probably not. HeroClix is riding the crest of complexity already, and adding multiabilities such as you suggest might push it too far.

Scud6 For future sets, will there be a limited number of giant/transporter figs or is FF an one- shot deal?
Seth I would love to make DC giant and transporter figs in particular, but we have to wait until we see how Fantastic Forces does before we could commit to a large group like that again. But if there's another way to get them out there before then, you can bet I'll take advantage of it.

Carter One side of the map is a blank grid to create your own scenarios.

Seth Consider it debunked. DC and Marvel have a certain of input into which version of characters are done, but beyond that the characters tend to dictate the design.

Carter Definitely! Favorites of the players are also favorites of ours. We want to see them too.

oldut Why the move to smaller maps?
Magister There's quite a list of reasons--first, they're easier to produce, which means we can get them out there to everyone; second, they're easy to laminate. Top that off with the fact that they don't have a significant impact on gameplay (just speeding it up a little) and it was a bit of a no-brainer, these maps are designed for head to head matches only, and you'll have to play with the long side of the map between you and your opponent. These are not for Battle Royales, then, but they're great for standard games.

Shellhead27 Becasue upcoming sets are going to be more "theme based", roughly what percentage of the characters in this new set can we expect to relate to the "Armor Wars" story?
Seth There are a number of characters from Iron Man in general, if not Armor Wars in particular. But (despite the set's name) to think of the "theme" of a HeroClix set as limited to a single storyline is thinking too narrowly.

BrandJames no, but mathmatically it is highly probable.

Seth There's always room for more obscure figures in a set. At least one went into testing a few weeks ago that shocked playtesters. But that said, there may only be one (or maybe two) slots for that kind of character in a set.

Wyldstaar You stated that set themes would not only regard the characters chosen, but their sculpts as well. Could you please elaborate?
Carter If there was a particular costume appearance for character or a character's first appearance that fits into the chosen theme, then it will most likely make it into the set.

BrandJames Our distributors are ultimately responsible for getting product to the stores. We have heard a number of complaints regarding this issue and we are looking for ways to improve the system.

Seth Buying one brick will get you the one ClixBrick figure that will be made per expansion.

BrandJames Promotions like New Guy Night are designed to bring more players to the game. The improved ratios are designed to keep existing and new players around for a long time.

Butmac Does Wizkids feel a need to change some powers like Invulnerability and Impervious due to the increasing damage values?
Seth No. With the exception of language to clarify how they work, the powers on the Icons PAC will be very familiar to those who know the Universe PAC.

The scenarios, maps, and LEs will all tie into the set, but if you're thinking about a very direct and specific connection, not necessarily, but we're still working on future sets (obviously), and if there's room to tie things in more closely, we'll take what opportunities present themselves.

Buddyhoss Will there ever be generic figs (sculpted w/dials) again? Have you ever considered selling these figs in blister packs like the Sentinel?
Seth Yes, but they'll be generics in the sense that they'll be low point-cost figures that will be able to fielded in large numbers without offending people's sense of continuity. However, you won't see many boring Joe Q. Cop or Jane Criminal figures. They'll be the sort of generics that you see only in comic books.

azswhype What has Wizkids found to be the average age of their Heroclix players?
BrandJames 90% of HeroClix players who respond to our online surveys are 18 or older. This and future announcements will take this into account.

BrandJames There is a limit of one ClixBrick figure per household.
Magister The ClixBrix figures won't actually be LEs. These figures will be "Collectors Edition" pieces. We will be posting a clarification on this soon so the answer is no--these pieces will not be distributed through envoy rewards. They're intended to support brick and mortar retailers and are more closely a part of the retail set.

JoshCrow Sometimes characters like Scarlet Witch demonstrate a miscommunication between sculpt choice and the intended figure (Ultimate vs. 616 version). Is there hope this will no longer happen?
Carter There have been problems in the past as far as sculpt choice and licensor approval, but this has been addressed and should no longer be a problem.

LordMagnus Will the new maps have improved markings to clearly indicate what is hindering, water, blocking etc.?
Seth Yes. One of the places you will see rules 'changes' in Icons is to finally clean up how terrain and maps work in HeroClix. Among them is that different types of terrain will have clearly defined boundaries around them so that each square is clearly oen type of terrain or another. The boundaries open up some cool possibilities, too--including the ability to make Indoor/Outdoor maps for the first time. Plan on seeing one of those before the end of the year.

JadeSpider9643 Am I correct in assuming that a ClixBrick is not just a promotion but also a form of packing? Meaning that ALL the boosters in a case will be contained within 4 ClixBrick with no loose boosters?
BrandJames ClixBricks are a form of packing. Every case will contain 4 ClixBricks. Retailers can break the bricks to sell singles. A sale of 12 loose boosters counts as a ClixBrick sale. The retailer must give the consumer the brick insert order form to fill out and send in.

ClixCC Question for Seth: Every new set seems to outdo the previous in terms of power, and armies are more and more prone to contain "big guns". Are there any plans to improve figure synergy and "cooperation" as opposed to just pumping numbers?
Seth The power level of the game is something we're constantly keeping an eye on, though it's a very difficult thing to control.

Magister They'll be available for the first time through the Wizard World HeroClix Invitational series--at the pre-release and envoys will have them on hand for standard events. Envoys that run out can just drop us a line and we'll send more.

BrandJames You can only be a New Guy only once. After that, you can bring your own New Guy to the next New Guy Night event.

BrandJames This chat had an attendance of over 700 people. Based on that we feel that this is a good way to communicate with players. Yes, we intend to do more of them in the future.

Seth It would be rash to say that you'll never see production errors ever again. In fact, I know of at least one that's already coming but we can do nothing about. But we do whatever we can to catch them, and those that do get through bother us as much as you. Honest.

Magister Each New Guy Night will feature a unique exclusive LE, and each expansion will feature one ClixBrix Collector's Edition piece.

Seth Our lawyers say no, unless we were to run some sort of contest (which is possible, but not currently planned.). Under the terms of our contract, player-created dials for licensed characters aren't allowed--so that's on the next stop past Unlikelyville in Impossibleland.

Fat_Ninja Will Judges still be empowered to use custom maps even with this new onslaught of new maps?
Magister Of course. HeroClix remains the land of house rules.

Magister We're not planning any more "venue crew" events in the immediate future, but it's far from out of the question. It's a fantastic promotion, and we'd love to do more of it, but to be honest, it's a lot of work for my staff and we're committed to making sure the Invitationals events run flawlessly before we start layering things on top of the program again. I'd rather do fewer things but do them better.

Seth Yes, and they come from my department. Retirement allows us to keep the game environment balanced and (eventually) move out things that we believe might be causing problems. For instance, I don't think you'll be seeing bystander tokens with team abilities again anytime soon. And eventually there won't be any at all.

Magister Roughly, our largest concentrations of players are located in the eastern half of the US.

Magister Each "New Guy" (or Gal... "New Person Night" just wasn't as catchy) will receive a free Universe starter. They'll be able to play with those pieces and their new swanky LE. So no purchase will be required from those folks.

Neptune1371 with game stores closing all over (3 in my town this year went under) is there going to be any other way for players to get maps and LE's other than at a store and ebay?
BrandJames Many of these promotions are designed to help game stores thrive so hopefully this problem will become more and more rare. We are also working on demo programs to help give envoys tools to get new people playing.

BADMOO Thanks for the smaller maps. Now they'll fit on our game tables. Can the envoys get a supply of counters, rings, etc... so when new people come to play they don't necessarily need to have a starter set?
Magister Well, they can get a free starter at New Guy Night. To answer your question, though, we are working on some ways of making supplies like this available to envoys and venues.
