A perplexing question for the brilliant tacticians
okay, so the title is lame, sue me.
Anywho, I was wondering, if you have a Brilliant Tactician, and they use perplex like the card says, can you use it on the Brilliant Tactician as well.
Basically, can a Brilliant Tactician use Perplex on themselves as well as use it on their teammates?

Now, up until the weekend, I would have said you could use the initial Perplex on yourself or your teammate, AND then used BT as well (in effect, giving one figure a double Perplex), but hair10 said you couldn't do that. We are still trying to find out why there was a change, or even IF there was a change. Anyway, as of Friday night, you must use Perplex on your opponent or on a figure on your team without the same ability, then you can use Perplex on yourself and the rest of your teammates.
In my day, we didn't have Heroclix. If you were being attacked by Superman with a 3d dumpster, you just had to hope you could outrun him.

Ok, so I guess I missed that......you have to use perplex to ACTIVATE BT? I didn't know that........so I guess that means my BT team will need some revamping now, considering I need to have one member that isn't a true teammate.....

Wha? That makes no sense at all, and I can't imagine why it would have been ruled that way. The text of the card just says something to effect of "When this character uses Perplex..." I don't see anything pertaining to who that initial Perplex has to be used on, or see any logical reason why it would work that way.
But to answer the original question, yes, the Perplexer does count as being on the team he's on for purposes of Perplexing everyone with his team ability.

Well, hopefully that gets cleared up, because that is a LITTLE crazy. I really didn't read the original perplex as being the activation of the feat, but I guess this has been going around for a while now, if this is still in discussion.
I for one hope it isn't, because that would make this the new most confusing feat, and that spot is reserved for the ATA's.......

The only thing I can think is that maybe someone thought that if you had, say, E Mr. Fantastic use Perplex on Thing's AV, then you could then use Brilliant Tactician to Perplex him again and raise, say, his damage. It would make more sense to rule that a single character can only use Perplex once per turn on any target rather than make this somewhat illogical ruling just to avoid the question altogether. Seeing Brilliant Tactician for the first time, the impression I had was of all four members of the Fantastic Four on a team with Mr. Fantastic staying back away from the combat and directing the other members of the team to optimize their combat ability. Now, if you had a pure all-one-TA team (the best possible situation for a Brilliant Tactician) and Mr. Fantastic is making a point to stay away from the direct face-to-face combat (also a smart move) then you wouldn't be able to use Brilliant Tactician at all.
He actually ruled this way on the 28th. It caught a lot of the judges by surprise. I've asked for an update since he hasn't addressed the outstanding question on this since then.

That, frankly, is moronic.
I'm not supposed to post his rulings here, but basically someone asked if Reed could use Perplex on Sue (thereby activating Brilliant Tactician), and then use the "group Perplex" from BT on Sue again. He said you couldn't Perplex twice on Sue... which is similar to your scenario with the Thing. Unfortunately, that was his last post in the thread. The only other posts were from other judges stating that changed the past ruling on the card. I will let everyone know when there is an update on this issue.

Well, that at least makes sense, but could be easily addressed with a clarification on Perplex, rather than Brilliant Tactician, which would leave you free to use BT as it's intended.
See, I DON'T think it makes sense. By the Rule of 3, I can Perplex any one of Sue's stats 3 times, and I can do that on ALL of her stats too. I don't understand why we can no longer use Perplex + BT on a figure now.

As far as I know you could never use BT to give a figure "two perplexes".
You don't have a Perplex action and a BT action. Its all one use of Perplex.
The activation of BT simply changes the rules of Perplex for the figure that has it.

That's the way I thought it was intended as well, but if that changed....man.....

Couldn't you just activate Brilliant Tactician by using your initial Perplex on one of your figures with the same team ability, and then not use the Brilliant Tactician on that figure, thereby avoiding the illegal "double perplexing?"

I would think this "makes sense" as well, but the whole topic and subsequent rulings are "perplexing" to me.
(Okay, it's lame, but I figured it was fine, based on the title of the thread...)
