I just played a game with my friend who also doesn't have any experience with heroclix and it was an interesting game. However we have several questions that we need answered or clarified
1. Can we pass as an action? So if we have two actions and we only wish to perform one, can we say it's the end of our turn?
2.I don't really understand the concept of Breakaway. I felt that it meant if you are next to an opposing character and wish to move you need to roll to see if you break away. Is this right? And if so are you still able to do a move action or does breakaway count as a move action?
3. If I have Cable, am I able to use XMEN team abilities on him or do I need a feat card? Does the team ability only apply to cable and any other xmen in my team?
4. It seems when you are drawing a line of sight, it can be questionable whether the line intersects the center of two adjacent cells or if they cut through the corners of both. How do you count this?

And if so are you still able to do a move action or does breakaway count as a move action? Yes for the first one. For the second one do you mean like to breakaway to charge? Or running shot?
3. If I have Cable, am I able to use XMEN team abilities on him or do I need a feat card? Does the team ability only apply to cable and any other xmen in my team? You do not need a feat card and you can only use the TA with other X-men characters.

Sure. In fact, depending on how many figures you have on your team, you may not even be able to use all your actions.

You declare that you are trying to do whatever (move, Charge, etc) with your character that is adjacent to an opposing character. Before you can actually perform that action, though, you must roll breakaway. If you succeed, take whatever action you had declared (go Charge something or move away or whatever). If you fail, the action is immediately ended and the character gets its token (basically, the character *tried* to move away, but the opposing character held him down or tripped him or something).

Umm... what X-men feat card? Cable (and the Vet Soldier X) all have the X-men team ability. As such, they can swap clicks of damage with any other friendly X-men team members (Cyclops, Wolverine, Polaris, etc). I guess I am not sure what you mean... are we talking about team abilites (the little X shaped symbol on Cable's dial) or some kind of feat card?

Well that is enough for now Thanks for the help!
Take a straight line (like fishing line or a ruler) and line it up with the attacker and the target. That is probably the best way. If you've got some specific scenario in mind, try drawing a little diagram here and we'll do our best to answer it.
Sorry my line of sight question was confusing. I have drawn a picture where two possible paths are possible, one intersecting three squares and one intersecting two. Do we always take the least numbered path?
I am sorry for confusing the feats with team abilities. I understand that they are two seperate things now.
I am curious about another thing. It says that a character has powers for as long as it dial shows that it does. But the manual says that power is an action so that would make me think you have to say this power is being used ( I know the manual says you don't have to say a power is being used, see I am confused lol)
What is the difference between boot speed and print speed and where can I find print speed?
what The manual is saying is when declaring who you are attacking, you don't need to necesarily declare what attack you are using each time. Hawkeye sit's still and attacks a single target you can assume he's using Ranged Combat Expert.

Always trace line of sight from the center of the character's square to the center of the target's square. I suppose this could be interpreted as the "least numbered path."

All powers are considered "on" when declaring an action. In other words, you would have to declare that you were turning an optional power "off" in order to not use it.
What Aminar said about RCE is a bit misleading, however. If you have two optional powers that could be used at range, you need to declare what action you're taking with them. If a character has Energy Explosion *and* Ranged Combat Expert, you'll need to declare either a ranged combat action or a power action to activate those powers... Even if you only have RCE showing, you'd still have to declare a power action in order to use it. If you are trying to get by on a technicality saying that you don't have to declare RCE in order to use it, I would prepare to have your opponent state the technicality that you didn't declare a power action in order to activate it.
Beyond the above "pissing contest," isn't it just nicer to be clear about your intent when playing against someone, which avoids any sort of argument or bad feelings?
HTH.

Thanks a lot guys
TRADES. eBay.
An Admin told me that I'm "too smart" for Another Realm. I hold that as a standing order.

Thank you, that is much more clear now. Basically, as far as determining range, you count squares the same way you'd count them for movement. So in the figure you provided, the range is 2. However, determine LOF goes from the center of your character's square to the center of the target's square (the green line in your diagram), which in this particular instance does happen to cross 3 squares. If something (blocking terrain, another figure, etc) happened to been in any of those squares the green line crosses, LOF would be blocked.
In summary, determine range the same way you do character movement (count shortest number of squares to get there), determine LOF from the center of the two squares (attacker and target).

Don't apologize. If you are new to the game, mistakes and misunderstandings are bound to happen. I've been playing for quite awhile, and I still forget things sometimes. Just let us know if you've got any more questions.

You are confusing Powers (the colors on the dial) with Power Actions (one of the four specific types of actions you may take each turn). Power Actions are sometimes necessary to activate Powers, Barrier for example requires a Power Action to activate. Others, meanwhile, are either on constantly and do not need to be activated (like Toughness) or require one of the other types of actions to activate (Outwit is a Free Action, not a Power Action). Does this make more sense now?
What is the difference between boot speed and print speed and where can I find print speed?
There is no such thing as the "print speed". I am guessing you read a feat card or power description which talked about the "printed speed value", which means the number currently displayed in the speed slot. Whether you are talking about Flash's 14 speed (boot), Superman's 13 spped (wing), or Aquaman's 8 speed (dolphin), all those numbers are the printed speed value.
Thanks a lot guys
I hope that all helps. Let us know if you have more questions.
Thanks a lot guys. We had a fun game last night with several more questions!! I really appreciate all the help that I am receiving.
1. If you are hovering and are adjacent to an opposing ground character, are you allowed to change from hovering to flying or do you have to roll to break away? I didn't think you did because the manual said "A hovering character may ignore the effects of opposing characters and hindering terrain on movement"
2. If you are soaring and next to an adjacent opposing grounded character, do you have to break away to move away?
3. How does one go about picking up a friendly with fly and transporting him ? And can the person who was carried take an action after he's on the ground( provided you have an action remaining)?
4. If you are hovering and pass through the adjacent square of an opposing character ( grounded) do you have to stop?
I am sorry for double posting but I could not find an edit feature and I had one more question.
5. If outwit is a free action, can one use outwit and then a ranged combat action with the same person ( with it counting only as one action?) And do you have to succesfully complete an attack to outwit somebody or is it automatic and you can attack them? If you do have to successfully complete an attack to use outwit, can you then roll to see if you can additionally damage them? Thanks a lot

I didn't think you did because the manual said "A hovering character may ignore the effects of opposing characters and hindering terrain on movement"
Flying figures only ignore character bases *while* moving, so if the flying character starts next to an opposing character, you do have to breakaway unless the fllying figure has some abilites that allows it to ignore character bases (Phasing, HSS, L/C, Serpent Society TA).
2. If you are soaring and next to an adjacent opposing grounded character, do you have to break away to move away?
Soaring characters only have to worry about other soaring characters, Giant characters, and Big characters. Normal grounded characters can't stop a soaring character.
3. How does one go about picking up a friendly with fly and transporting him ? And can the person who was carried take an action after he's on the ground( provided you have an action remaining)?
The carried character must be adjacent to the flier (meaning the flier can move over a couple squares, then pick up the character). Then you simply move the flier, stating as you begining to movement that it is carrying that other guy. Whe the movement is over, just place the carried figure in any legal square adjacent to the flier.
A character that has been carried may only take free actions for the rest of the turn (i.e. it can only Outwit, Perplex, etc). If you wanted to have it take another kind of action *before* being carried, that is fine.
4. If you are hovering and pass through the adjacent square of an opposing character ( grounded) do you have to stop?
No. As you stated above, hovering characters ignore terrain and character bases for movement purposes. The opposing character doesn't even have to be grounded, either. A flying character can buzz right past other fliers, Giants, Big figures, etc.
Thanks a lot guys for the help.
Oh, and just a little note, I use 'flier' and 'hovering character' to mean the same thing. If I was specifically talking about a flier that was soaring, I'd saying 'soaring character'. I hope this doesn't lead to any confusion.
I am sorry for double posting but I could not find an edit feature and I had one more question.
There isn't one. Yes, it irritates me, too.
5. If outwit is a free action, can one use outwit and then a ranged combat action with the same person ( with it counting only as one action?) Yes, you may use as many free actions as you like in a turn. For example, if you have a figure with Outwit, you can Outwit something, then take an Attack or Power Action (and that would give you a token). Now let's say that was the second token on that character and it took pushing damage. When you click the dial, you find that Outwit is gone, but the character has gained Perplex. Since Perplex is also a free action, you could choose to Perplex up the attack value of one of that character's teammates before it takes its' attack. The only real limit to free actions is A) if the description of the power says you may only use it once per turn (like Outwit) and B) if the description says it must be used at the beginning of the turn (like Leadership or Poison). Otherwise, use them as much as you want.
Also, you do not have to roll to Outwit or Perplex or anything like that. When in doubt, check the power description. Does the power description say anywhere that you must make a close or ranged combat attack (like it does for Incapacitate or Psychic Blast)? If it does, you need to roll. If all it says is something like 'draw a LOF' with no additional requirements (like Outwit or Barrier), no attack roll is necessary.
My friend got the universe starter set and I want to know if on the avenger mansion outdoors, how do you interpret the building? Do you enter the stair from the lighter line and have to stop at the top of the stair before you enter the bulding. Is that the rooftop? Is the rooftop all one layer? Do cars and trucks serve as a hindering object or an elevated layer? Can a person soar from the ground to the top of a rooftop?

Marvel HeroClix Map Set - Avengers Mansion Outdoor
• The top square of the stairs should not have a thick black line on the edge adjoining the rooftop. You may enter the rooftop from this square.
• The rooftops are considered to be clear elevated terrain.
• The cars are hindering terrain.
Also, a flier does *not* have to go into soaring mode to reach the roof top. Since they can ignore terrain even in hovering mode, they can just move right on up to the roof (or vice versa).
Finally, and this may set your mind at ease, starting with the new map that came out in the Armor Wars pre-release all new maps have a very clearly defined color border around the various types of terrain. No more guessing whether or not something is hindering terrain: if it doesn't have a green line around it, it isn't hindering terrain. While you may need to refer to the Map FAQ for the older maps, newer maps will be much easier to figure out what is what.

OK, did I miss a change in the Icons rules, or is this a typing error?
I thought a flyer/transporter could only carry a figure that started adjacent to it, and that it is illegal to move a bit, pick up another figure, and then carry it along...

Yes, it was a typo. Here's how that part *should* read:
