Hey all,
I'm going to a 400 point "birds of a feather" tournament. All pieces must start with a least one identical power... all pieces must have Super Senses, or Leap/Climb, etc.
My brother gobbled up the Running Shot team. It's pretty threatening with V Hawkeye (FF), E Blackfire, E Songbird, E Cyclops (Ult), and R/V Dagger. I had a different one planned, but I'd like to be different. Beyond that, I know that least three people that are going to bring V Superman and like a Northstar or Quicksilver swarm.
I want to bring a different, unique team, and one that could be just a little annoying. All Super Senses, Barrier, Outwit, or Perplex. TK could be ridiculously fun also... bouncing my pieces all over the board.
But before I started building I wanted to get some insight from your experiences if you've done this kind of thing. Would you mind sharing?
At the venue I typically play at, we actually had the exact same scenerio this past weekend.
It's funny because my friend and I both built separately and brought almost the same teams. The power we both chose: Phasing (we both wanted to try something different from your typical running shot or rce teams).
Here was my team:
110 v. Doctor Strange (FF)
010 + Force Field
010 + ICWO
054 v. Jinx
010 + ICWO
054 r. Raven (Icons)
029 e. Lockjaw
005 + Double Time
044 LE Clarice Ferguson
066 e. Shaman
005 + Thunderbolts
=397 points.
My friend's team, which beat mine, dropped v. Jinx and ICWO to put in v. Lockjaw and LE Ghost Widow with AP instead.
The battlefield conditions I used were Inertial Interference Field and Power Dampening Field since most of the pieces didn't have damage greater than 3 and noone has any move/attack powers that would be affected by IFF anyways. IFF also really hurts the Running Shot/HSS teams, if you're expecting those.
My wife and I have played a ton of games like this, and she has consistantly won using a willpower team. Just do a units search and you'll be able to see the massive amount of great figures that start with this power. I used to use a supersenses team quite a bit, because you can be completely annoying with fige like Destiny, Domino, Spiderman, Daredevil and the V Wolverine from Ultimates.
It's always seemed that the common defense ability teams did the best in the tourneys that I played.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Apparently, this is how we show emotion on the inttarwebss.
I second that motion on the willpower team. My girlfriend and I just recently played a similar game. She used all characters with mind control, and I played all Will Power. It's great, because you can push and not take damage therefore getting the chance to do more throughout the game. With such characters as Batman, Deathstroke, Green Lantern (Hal Jordan Version), and KC Green Lantern, You can do a lot of damage while the opponent is forced to rest. Even Better? People that have willpower and the Mystic/Arachnos/Crossgen team ability. Nothing ticks people off more than that.

An all Probability Control team would be really annoying.
I think it'd be neat, but really tough to do in 400 points just because most pcers tend to be lower point guys and there really aren't that many of them with it front-loaded once you get past Domino, Destiny, Scarlet Witch.

Well, there's E Legacy Batman, Dr. Fate, Loki, Raven, technically Ultraman and Superwoman have PC on their dials as long as they have the CSA TA, but that might be stretching it. I'd go with Willpower for the good character choices it gives you, and Super Senses if you're feeling lucky.
True, but none of those bigger pieces I think are good enough to support a team on their own, and PC won't give you much other support (since you're losing every other damage power now).
Stealth could be quite powerful because you could use the Sue Storm + FF ATA trick with wildcarders like Taskmaster and Silver Sable. If you're playing unrestricted, Stealth would also net you Johnny Alpha as a tker as well.
Plenty of Batman, Original Wonder Woman, Deathstroke, Spiderman, Doctor Doom.

I don't know about that, Batman moves to outwit, and Strange has a series of powers on his dial after PC. Then toss in PB on the dials of Fate and Strange, ICWO feat, barriers (which come from fate or strange after a hit), then the fairly good attack values, good defensive values all combined with that much PC the team could do just fine.
I don't have to take this abuse from you, I've got hundreds of people dying to abuse me.
Green Lantern (125 )is excellent for his TK but will take up a bulk of points
Spiderman Vet Ult (58)
Batman E Starter (47)
Moonknight E (27)
Doc Oc V (66)
Jane FOster (16)
Black Widow Vet (69) with stunning blow
Deathstroke Vet (58)
And 30 points worth of ICWO
---------------------------------------------------
496 points
Spiderman can copy the Ultimates/Batman combo.
Not lots of upfront punch to this team
For added power you can add Punisher with an 8 range and 4 damage
Other good willpower characters
Elektra Vet 26
Green Goblin Unique
Talia
KC Lantern
Hawkgirl
Rasputin
Arthur Curry
Dr. Strange doesn't have PC front-loaded, which is required for this scenerio, if I read it correctly.
Batman is good, and the e. Dr. Fate is pretty good too, but they just have too short of range to really be that effective on their own. On a PC team, you're not going to have any tk front-loaded and aren't really going to have anyone with move/attack powers either, so you're either going to have to fly up to someone and hope they don't hit you, or you're going to have to get attacked first. Having a good defense would work, but someone who has stealth would be pretty problematic for the team to deal with (with the exception of the v. Scarlet witch or a WCer copying Ultimates from her). Even then, for 160 points, Loki is good, but he's no Black Adam.
If you wanted to be really gutsy, you could run a team based around Support, with E Sasquatch, U Xorn and LE Ghost Widow. That'd surprise some people, I imagine

You are right, I could have swore Fates dial went PC to Outwit....I had it backwards.
