A year or so ago, somebody started a thread that put Ares in the workshop, but the idea never really took off. I want to put the community efforts to good use with a new series, "In the Workshop." Here, we can discuss great ways to use figures to their best potential.
I know he's a beast, we all know he's a beast. He's such a beast that I geberally leave him in my box and play other fun pieces. Lately, I've been thinking, "It would be fun to play beasts!" So, I dug out my Ares, etc. The next one on the List is Darkseid.
I know he gets faulted for having no move/attack powers, but I think you can play/build around that nicely. For instance, that 14 Phasing lets you pick your target. He can drag someone like Crimson Dynamo right up into someone's business and place so he can shoot you, but you can't shoot him. With Dynamo's Plasticity, you won't get away, with his CCE, you can't ignore him, and with his Invuln, you won't dispatch him easily.
So, share some stories and theories about Darkseid.

I'd drop R or E Clayface instead of Dynamo, personally--but yeah, good idea. It'd be murder on most centerpieces, with the HSS folks being the obvious and irking exception. I'm hoping they change it in Danger Room so that HSS has to make a normal 4-6 breakaway roll vs. Plasticity.
Anyway... Darkseid's main weakness is swarm teams, particularly those packing lots of stealth. E Quicksilver with Homing Device could be the ticket here. Alternatively you could outfit someone mobile and fairly accurate, like V Hawkeye, with Trick Shot and let them handle Stealth pieces, or at least knock them off their stealth clicks.
You could also get mean with ICwO and Con Artists to have a 15 range and an 8 damage PsyBlast, and once they get in your natural range a 14 attack 8 damage PsyBlast... But I'm not sure I want to advocate such a thing.
V. Darkseid is the bane of "Tent-pole" teams; and "Swarm" teams are the bane to him.
His Attack Value can use some help on his first two clicks, therefore a fig like Exp. DEO Agent can be his best friend because of her ability to use PD TA and Perplex to increase his AV by +2 if need be.
Tie-up figs are a good option; REV Vanisher works very well at this.
Barrier is also a good choice to help Darkseid move into position.
One final thought before I ramble on too long: Incapacitate figs --preferably multi-Incappers-- can assist the Lord of Apokolips as well...

If you were going for a theme, I guess you could always have Darkseid phase in and carry his son Kalibak. Kalibak isn't a bad piece and can take a decent beating, plus is they try to run away, Kalibak can run after them. Just place Kalibak in B2B contact with Darkseid positioned to see what Kalibak is swinging at. that way, if you were dealing with hypersonic per se, Kalibak could be based with them, and D could outwit the hypersonic forcing them to have to try and break away. If they still broke away, oh well, but if they don't then Kalibak has fun the next round.
I'll agree that Clayface(CD) might be a good candidate for this tactic. For that matter, someone with blades and regen could be run. Like either Vet Lizard or Wolverine(FF) equipped with auto regen. That way, when smacked hard, they would land on regen. Just regen and cut away to your heart's content. (this is provided, of course, the character gets to live long enough to regen).
Some interesting ideas.

The first time I played Vet Darkseid was againts the FF team. I missed several shots. His attack value will definitely need some help to connect the shots he needs.
Not too bad, seem like every time I use him in a 300 point game I dont have enough support for him but if I play him in 400 there are too many people attacking him. Best luck I have had with him is to have two people with barrier so that its really hard for anyone to get at him. Then you need someone to deal with stealth and at least one other outwit.
Then again I dont normally play tent poll teams.
Borat: "My Sister she is prostitute."
Lady: But why?
Borat: "Because she like to make money, High five!"
Huge opening movement and range so he can live without a TKer. Then you can play poor teamwork to help protect against LAMP teams.
He can pick up the desk on that opening move and land in hindering. Then he can have a 20DV from range to avoid an initial attack.
He is push friendly so you can choose when to use your protected card. You might not neccessarily want to protect against the initial damage if it puts you on a good click.
He doesnt have a move and attack power so play the IIF BFC and hamper almost every other big hitter out there.
He gains that huge phasing movement back at the end of the dial for 2 clicks so he has a decent chance of turning tail and getting back to a medic.
He has no team ability so play disbanded and hose a lot of teams.
He is a challenge to win with but I would take him any day over Parallax and save almost 70 pts in the process.
Have no worries. There will be no HeroClix 2.0 while I'm working on the game. - Seth Johnson
If I use Darkseid, I usually use him along with The Flash (well, really, any hypersonic speedy guy under 100 points) with Homing Device and Swingline. Darkseid's main selling point is his ability to lay the smackdown on his enemies from 12 squares away where they can't hit him back (and what a smackdown it is, especially on clicks 4-5) and enemies hiding out in Stealth really balls that plan up. Best to get them out of stealth so you can slaughter them.
