In a seperate thread something was brought up about a game I just played recently. My opponent was using an LE Sue Storm with the alternate FF + ICWO along with some wild cards to copy her defense value. On the first turn he used her to taxi Manticore, and used ICWO to boost her defense up to a 20. In the other thread it was mentioned that this was not possible.
So I double checked the feat card, and it says nothing about not being able to use a modified defense value. One person said this was FAQed. Can some one please shed some light on this situation? I belive I might have been screwed. Thanks.
Technically, it's called the "Errata and Clarifications" document. They changed it a while back.
Anyway, the specific errata you are looking for is in the Marvel E&C:

• Replace the last line with: “Any member of this team may replace its defense value with the unmodified defense value of any other member.”
The Thing can use Sues 19 defense, then ICWO up his own defense. He wont be able to share it, but he can still get to a 20 defense

No, this won't work because of the timing of ICWO and sharing DVs.
DVs are only shared when the character is attacked (the Thing isn't constantly walking around with a 19 DV, most of the time he just has his own). ICWO is activated, and the +1 bonus granted, when the character takes a tokenable action (like attacking, moving, placing a Barrier, etc); this can only happen on your turn when the character is not being subjected to an attack. In other words, the ICWO bonus, if placed on the DV, applies to that character's (Thing) DV and that character's DV only. If, at a later date, that DV is replaced by anothe value, it replaces the entire value including any temporary modifiers like ICWO. The character's DV starts with a clean slate, if you will.
Permanent modifies (modifiers that are always active) can still work. Powers like ES/D, the new version of Combat Reflexes, hindering terrain modifiers, Shellhead feat, etc always function when certain conditions are met, so they will continue to work after a DV is replaced. This is what makes Human Torch (and his ES/D) so useful with alt-FF and Defend.
Sorry, but Thing has topped out a 19 (21 with Shellhead, 20 (22) in hindering terrain (with Shellhead). ICWO won't help him.
