Can DEFEND shared defense be Perplexed or oracled up?
Can DEFEND shared defense be Perplexed or oracled up?
Lets say I have contact with oracle on Havoc. Havoc is adjacent to KC WonderWoman and uses her DEFEND ability to share her defense value which is 18. Can Havoc now oracle or perplex up his defense to 19?
No. Defend allows an adjacent friendly character to share its unmodified defense value. Havok can copy WW's 18 defense, but couldn't further modify/increase it. Same deal if WW increased her defense to 19 (with Oracle)-- she would still have a 19, but only be able to share an 18.
So if WW shares her 18 defense with Quicksilver does his es/d add 2 to his 18 making 20 defense against ranged attacks?
Yes.
However, there is another element to all of this. Going back to Havok adjacent to WW. Havok could Oracle up his Defense when he takes an action so he has a 17 (+2 from ES/D). When Havok is attacked, his Defense value is completely replaced with WW's 18, which can then be further modified by his ES/D...a power that is used when the character is attacked by a ranged attack.
So if WW shares her 18 defense with Quicksilver does his es/d add 2 to his 18 making 20 defense against ranged attacks?
Yes that would work.
The reason you can't modify the defense of a fig and then use Defend or FF ATA is that the power Defend and the FF ATA REPLACES the DV, which also replaces the modifier, which has to happen before the attack which triggers Defend or FF ATA.
The energy shield is active all the time so will give you the +2 bonus to your DV when you are targeted with a ranged attack.
So you can't perplex or Oracle a Defend character to up the DV, but you can use Defenders/JSA/Alt FF to change the DV and then share it?
I am not 100% sure what you are asking here.
Do you mean if you have a charcter with Defend (say R CT Invisible Girl) and another character with a higher DV (say LE FF Sue Storm), can Sue using alt FF replace IGs DV with a 19, and then have IG share the 19 DV to someone else using Defend?
If that is what you are asking, yes, that is fine. Defend specifies you unmodified values; there is nothing at all modified (at least by Heroclix's definition of the word) about that new 19 DV, it is a replacement value (not a modifier). A really nasty trick is to use LE Positron with alt-FF Sue Storm and a cheap character (like Starter Wasp) T-bolted to GL. Have Positron taxi a whole mess of people into place (hopefully with ES/D into hindering terrain) with GL, the switch to alt FF so his Defend is now sharing the 19 DV.
If that isn't what you meant, please restate your question... I haven't had my coffee yet
that is what i meant. and I also believe R Shadow Lass would do the same thing as LE Positron but most cost-effectively. thank you.
True, but Positron is a much more effective attacker (11 AV, 3 damage) than Shadow Lass. So if you want your DV sharing taxi to actually fight back, Positron is definitely the way to go. If you are just looking for cheap mobility and DV sharing, Shadow Lass is probably the better bet.
my thinking was/is: Offensively Positron is the better fig. no question. but if you are going to make a tank (that's what i thought you were describing in your above post) then that middle piece (if you want to use it offensively) should have Trick Shot. Neither Posi nor Lass have "good" RCE (well, Posi on his final clix with low AV and DV), so I'll go with the cheaper GL taxi. Natural Stealth and keeping Defend for more than the first click are also cool for Lass.
My H/W link does not reflect the wants for my collection, it is a list of figures that I already have, but still "want" to play.

If you want to go with a full tank, true. But in a 300 (or even 400 point) game, that can be sometimes difficult to pull of, especially if you already have 71 points (LE Sue Storm + E Wasp + T-bolts) already invested in the team. Usually with Positron, I have seen him just carry 3 or 4 characters with good ranged damage and ES/D (V Havok, V Bullseye, E Electro, etc) leaving the back kind of open. If that is how you have to do it, and your opponent manages to get behind your screen, Positron's offensive capabilites will be really crucial.
Again, it is whatever you want to do. Full tank, Shadow Lass is probably more useful.
T. Bolt a LE Ant-Man to either JSA or Defenders and pair him up with Nightshade/Umbra. Mobile shield for your figures with a base 20 Defense. Just remember that Pulsewave will tear through anyone in the group with the execption of Ant-Man depending on how the dice go. Only good for unrestricted and friendly games though.
