Okay, so, I'm thinking of teams to use for the 400pt Goblin Princess battle at the local venue. The usual suspects seem to think this week's tournament will see far more than the usual 4-5 people, just due to the prize, and people will be breaking out their best teams.
Which kinda puts me at a disadvantage, due to a lack of cheap pit crews, decent tentpoles, and over-powerful feats.
So, after a lucky pull from a booster and a guy who says he'll trade me one of the extra half-dozen alt-FF feats he has, it looks like I'm going to try to use LE Sue Storm (FF) and E Invisible girl (CT) as the backbone of my defense (Yes, Disbanded will screw me over, I know that. For support, I'm considering E Black Cat and V Mr. Fantastic (FF). Which leaves me 184 points left to scrape together some sort of offense. I don't have much left for on-base FF members (A rookie Human Torch, the non-poison version), so that mainly leaves me with my wildcarders. So... which of these woudl you use to fill up those last 184 points?
E Klaw (74). 10 range, 10 attack, and RCE.
E Firestar (52). Slap on Armor Piercing for her poison and use her as a dangerous taxi for Mr. Fantastic that's got a 21def from range?
V Cloak (75). Another candidate for Armor Piercing, and he'd be running 19def + super senses. Plus Exploit Weakness to hurt the tentpoles with Impervious.
V Dagger (69). Low range but three targets with psychic blast would let her whtitle down multiple-brick teams.
V Spidey MM (104). Expensive, but high attack and a deep dial. If I had nanobots this'd be my first pick... but I don't.
E Jessica Jones (45). But I don't think I need -more- Perplex, do I?
E Spidey Sin (77) Gives me a little combat-worthy transporter.
V Taskmaster (75) Nasty little bugger all around. But he'd need a way to get into combat.
V Captain Cold (82) Expensive, but RunShot would give me some much-needed move-and-attack-ability. Plus he'd be another barrier for if I need to turtle or lock someone down.
E Emerald Empress (90) If I can arrange single-target pulse waves, she could be brutal.
R Persuader (96) Exploit to hurt the big guns, and a decently-deep dial.
R Chameleon (30) Cheap taxi that can push into Poison, and has Shape Change to help his survivability?
R Rasputin (111) Long range with psyblast, Perplex, and if need be can push into Mind Control for dual-tentpole teams.
So... yeah, not the best collection in the world, but that's what I have to work with. Recommendations? Should I drop an Invisible Girl and use mroe points for offense? Go for cheaper, non-protected pit crew figures?
If those are my choices, I'd pick Firestar, Chameleon, and Persuader.
Have Firestar carry Persuader into combat, then she passes and Persuader attacks, then he passes and she shoots.
Chameleon can carry around Mr Fantastic, parking him where he can Perplex Firestar/Persuader, and attack your opponents support. Don't push Chameleon to his poison click unless things are getting bad, cuz he's praying for that shapechange to work to stay alive. One good hit and he's gone, 19 defense or no.
Play deliberately and think things through. You've no frontline outwit, and no support. Keep Black Cat in stealth near the action so you can make the most of that PC. Best of luck, and let us know how things go.
For the record, I went with V Taskmaster, E Emerald Empress, Lockheed, and Colleen Wing. In retrospect, maybe dropping Colleen and assing Nova Blast to Empress would've worked better... but Colleen was actually viewed as a threat by the others due to the BCF.
First team I played was a dual-Ghost-Rider, Dual-Medic, Iron Fist/Domino team. I did some lucky positioning and won the game fairly handly.
Second game was against a pimped-out Braniac / Songbird / Destiny / Liam Harper team. I wasn't able to pin down Braniac, but when it came down to it, the only things dead on either side were the pogs. So it was barely a loss for me... still counted as a loss tho.
Third game was against... I forget. It was another close game that resulted in me etching out a win after pushing my own Taskmaster to death. Stpid move on my part, but hey... still won.
All in all, I think I did fairly well... next time, Nova Blast would probably be the way to go...
