At that point, just punching them might be more appropriate
Not necessarily. If you bonk them with the object they are sitting on, even if the attack misses the object is now gone (potentially opening of LOF from other characters).
So what you are saying is that if batman was standing on the laser turret Marvel girl who would have to be adjacent to the object can TK the object out from under batman and smack him with it ?
I have not used tk to attack a person so does one have to be adjacent to an object to TK it to attack or does the object just have to be within the persons range ?

the figure with tk needs to be adjacent to the object. the regular rules for tk apply (ten spaces, los, etc.) you just have to make an attack roll against the opposing fig then.
as far as i know, this is the only instance in which a grounded figure can make what is technically a ranged combat attack against an adjacent grounded figure.
