My store was one of the ones to win the horrorclix contest so we all get the AvP set.. I have Zero desire to play horrorclix but would love to throw em in a game of Heroclix. Anyone know if they are playable together?

Unfortunately, it would appear those running the contest didn't interpret the rules the same as everyone else did, and the participants do not receive the AvP set, just the participation LE.
The AvP set is for the venue, apparently. And there's only one.
We did this in my venue, and I remember most of it. Bear with me please.
Hero = Heroclix piece
Monster = Horrorclix piece.
Basically, Heroes pieces start as all vanilla. They need to murder (or save, for the heroic types) a bystander/victim and become "Blooded" to activate their powers.
This means that you treat a Hero dial as vanilla until they kill a victim. They still have full access to TA's, Flight, Transporter, and Giant.
When a Hero pushes, they still take pushing damage, even though Monsters don't.
Some Monsters have powers that specifically target "pushed/vulnerable" figures, but more on that in a minute. Monsters still do not take damage from pushing.
Generally, Heroes have longer ranges than Monsters. I'm not saying ALL do, it's just a general observation. The longest I recall seeing at the crossover matches was a 6.
Monsters don't take damage from pushing. This means that they essentially have willpower. Some monsters also have powers and abilities that take advantage of pushed figures.
So to be honest, they ARE COMPLETELY compatable. It's just as easy to start a Hero as normal and have Monsters need to become blooded. (some monsters become stronger as they kill victims)
Have fun with the rules here! It's not perfect, but it's what i remember.
Given the rules here, it would be perfectly reasonable to have teams consisting of the Grim Reaper, Namor, and Zombie Spidey.

All I can say for compatibility purposes is this: Monsters play their rules, heroes play their rules. You could probably have heroes must save bystanders and victims, monsters must eat them.
When it comes to villains and mercenaries - they just want a piece of the action . .
Eh . . .

No kidding. The majority of Horrorclix figs don't have ranged attacks or even flight.
How did they Monsters fair against the Heroes? I'm really curious about this cause the Monsters seem to be as such a disadvantage power wise but are significantly cheaper cost wise.
secondly tuttle went ahead and made it one avp set PER PLAYER due to the confusion....say what you will about the guy but im surprised they were willing to go that way....
thirdly they are 80% compatible, only because they have not ever been playtested together...this too was straight from the horse's mouth at the origins EAN....they are created to be pointswise compatible (where MK and heroclix weren;t)

A lot of the more powerful ones we had come up against (Mad monk and Reaper of souls) were troublesome in particular. As soon as one of our figures got whacked by the Reaper for 4 damage because he pushed (Namor, if memory serves) we NEVER PUSHED AGAIN.
The Judge had us make 300 point teams, but at least 150 points had to be generic. This kept the numbers fairly even, though I'm not sure how it would have turned out if we had vanilla 300 points.
I'm not a Horror guy, so bear with me on this right about now.
When the Monsters get blooded, they have an ability that acts like a full-move charge for 1 damage. (Clarification on name please)
THIS ability was a big factor in the gameplay.
To put is in lamen's, it was fair that way, but I'm not sure what would've happened if we had normal teams.

That's a Frenzy attack. The Damage value gets reduced to 1, but can be modified or replaced by a power -- the biggies being Spree and Slash (BCF).
