Question on "the rule of 3" and venue problems....
Does the rule of 3 apply with the Fantastic Four ATA. Say I have an Invisible Woman with an 18 defense and the Human Torch is at the end of his dial with a 13 defense. Can Torch still use the Inv. Womans 18 defense since it is more than 3?
Also, I haven't played in a venue for 2 years and recently started again. The judge in our venue has told me that some of the rule changes include you cannot use Charge or Flurry with Blades&Claws. It's not a house rule. He says that is the official rule. I see that isn't the case when I look up the rules in the FAQ. Being the new guy, I don't want to cause problems, but it kind of takes the fun out of the game hen he can basically come up with what he wants on the rulings. Plus the fact that when I work on a team during the week with a certain strategy and then go in on game day and find out I can't use a strategy in that venue. Is there anything I can do? I was thinking about just printing the FAQ and bringing it in, but like I said, being the new guy, I don't want to be the new guy that causes problems and make the judge look bad. Anyways, thought I would ask. Thanks and God bless.
Since Defend and FF ATA are REPLACEMENTS, modifiers. A replacement such as Defend or Sinister Syndicate or Defenders are not subject to the Rule of 3. Perplex, ICWO, CCE/RCE are.
As for the Charge/Blades/Flurry....very wrong. They can be used together. It all boils down to wording. Charge is a Power action that allows you to move half your speed and give a close combat action free. And BCF says? Give this character a Close Combat action. Same with Flurry, so therefore, totally legal.
Contrary to popular belief, I do know what I'm doing
I don't think it is affected by the rule of 3, as the FF card states "Any member of this team may replace its defense value with defense value of any member", not "Modify its defense value with....", with key word being 'replace' . Anywhere I've played where I've seen the card in play, it has always replaced the full value, therefore allowing the full 19 defense if you use FF LE Sue Storm.

TheFreak is correct. To further clarify the difference, a modifier is when you add or subtract a number to your stats, such as RCE giving +2 to damage. A replacement value on the other hand is when the value is replaced by another set value, such as using Defend to replace an adjacent figure's Defense value.
Heck, you can give the R CT Human Torch a 19 defense with Sue Storm... Makes him way more worth his 40 points...

Yes becuase the rule of 3 applies to modifiers, not replacement values.

The judge is wrong. B/C/F states it can be used when the character is given a close combat action. Charge grants a close combat action and Flurry is a close combat action. Therefore, B/C/F can be used with either of those two powers.
There are 542,000 children in foster care. Talk to your local foster and adoptive agency. You could change a life.
Yes it is, flurry is a close combat action and BCF states that whenever you use a close combat action you're allowed to replace the damage value with a d6
Bummer. Must have read that wrong then. I don't mind being wrong, but when the person being challenged just tells you you're wrong without giving an explanation-that sucks.

That, my friend, is why my venue rocks. I'm not fond of strategies of all players there (as I'm there to have fun rather than always win), but when it comes to the rules, almost all of them are ace when it comes to filling me in on a rule...WITH explanation.
My favourite was the SuperNova pre-release.
"They look like stairs and smell like stairs and taste like stairs, but until it's errated...those are NOT stairs on the map. Only way to get there is to fly, phase, or L/C."
