The game is greatness, Carlos. The characters, the story, the gameplay, the modding. Its all great.
There is even a DC comics mod that's pretty good except you can't punch someone while flying and most modders aren't careful about knockback values. This makes playing as Superman quite weird.
Superman: Lets see, I can shoot that robot with my heat vision or I can land at its feet and get stepped on for 1 damage at a time, but I will be constantly falling down from the knockback and will never get a hit in.
The game designers did a better job than the modders, though, and you won't encounter these problems in the normal story mode.
AMAZING thanks. I can't wait for played I have a good PC but I think I need something but I don't kno what. I receive a error, I seach oline and I found this:
"Startup error "alert: init renderer".
16 MB Direct3D capable video card using the NVIDIA GeForce3, NVIDIA GeForce2, NVIDIA GeForce 256, NVIDIA Riva TNT2, NVIDIA Riva TNT, ATI Radeon 8500, ATI Radeon, ATI Rage 128 Pro, ATI Rage 128, PowerVR3 Kyro II, PowerVR Kyro, Matrox MGA-G450, or Matrox MGA-G400 chipset with DirectX 8.1 compatible driver.
To address these issues, ensure that you have the latest drivers for your card, check for information about your video card below or in the section below that tells you how to install DirectX 8.1.
Make sure you have 3D acceleration enabled in dxdiag.exe. To do this, run dxdiag.exe, which normally lives in the system32 subdirectory inside your windows folder. Go to the ‘display’ tab and make sure both DirectDraw Acceleration and Direct3D acceleration are enabled.
At least one person has reported that dxdiag.exe has displayed 3d as being enabled when it wasn’t. If you believe this might be the case, click on the ‘disable’ button next to the DirectDraw Acceleration. If the message displays “This will enable DirectDraw for ALL display devices on your system…” then hit OK.
I have a video card with an Nvidia chipset. What drivers should I use?
Those running the game with NVidia chipset graphics cards should obtain the latest drivers from the NVidia website (www.nvidia.com).
I’m having trouble running the game with my Voodoo video card, or I’m seeing significant graphical distortions. What should I do?
Those attempting to run the game on Voodoo cards may find the following helpful. Although Voodoo cards are no longer supported by the manufacturer, the latest drivers can be obtained from www.voodoofiles.com.
Freedom Force is expected to run properly on Voodoo 3 & 5 cards under Windows 98 and Windows ME. However, there are known problems under Windows 2000 and Windows XP. The following hints may be helpful:
* Enable full screen anti aliasing. To do so, right click on your desktop and select "properties". Then, from the display properties dialog, select the "settings" tab and click on the "advanced" button. Now, select the "anti-aliasing" tab and ensure that the "Direct 3D" toggle is selected. From the list, select any option other than "best performance". This has been found to fix problems with flickering displays.
* For Voodoo 3 chipsets, the 4.12.01.0666 drivers have been found to be stable. If you have problems with other drivers, we suggest obtaining and using these.
Voodoo 1 and Voodoo Banshee chipsets will not work with Freedom Force."
For me is chinese. what I need to buy or do? 16 MB Direct3D m,aybe? that is all?
btw I see the page with mods of chars from Marvel and Starfox is there! if you know what i have to buy/do let me know please!
Both Freedom Force games are great. Probably the two best super hero related games ever released on any system.
The first one is an all Silver Age based title set in the 50s/60s. The characters are a little campy, but fun and inspired. The storyline is good, and there is a lot of hero customization to do along with a huge selection of people to pick from.
The second is a mostly Golden Age themed title set in the second world war. I found it much easier then the first with the right characters (Super Collider for instance is VERY powerful). However, it was still fun and enjoyable.
The plots and characters are mostly black and white (a good thing!), the animation is good, and the graphics are nice. Plus you can build and create your own heros with their own powers and abilities. No two characters need to be the same. It also sported a vast fan community, and you can still pick up all kinds of models/skins/custom animations/mods/etc for it.
If you are a fan of Marvel or DC you will enjoy the base game itself, as it is a total nod towards the big two. Minute Man - Captain America, Mentor - Martian Manhunter, El Diablo - Human Torch and so forth, right down to the Hall of Justice.....er Freedom Fortress. The character origins are heavily inspired by Jack Kirby, and are fun little cut scenes.
My favorite villain is Mr. Mechanical and his robots, and my favorite hero was Minute Man from the first and Sky King from the second. Given your stated tastes in comics I think you'd greatly enjoy these two games.
"Un-fun Dad, un-fun Dad,
He's so bad, he mak'a me mad
Un-fun Dad, un-fun Dad
He's a real cad, Un-fun Dad"
I loved FF... Unfortunately, they changed the format for mods in the second game, making some of the old ones non-compatible. (That's my memory, anyway...)
I cant even begin to tell ypou the trouble i had with that game. I got help with installing custom skins, the one thing i wanted to do, and still cant.
After fiddling, downloading patches and such, all i have are the "evil" skins for each of the main characters. Also my bonus DVD doesnt work.
I was starting to think i got a pirate copy, since i got it off ebay. It looks real enough..
Play it with the default characters, the game really is very good (and you'll miss out on various in game interactions with custom characters, ie if you take person x on a mission n they get different lines, and some custom banter with the npcs).
I used to download the custom models and build all sorts of DC/Marvel heros, but then never used them as the existing characters were just that much fun.
"Un-fun Dad, un-fun Dad,
He's so bad, he mak'a me mad
Un-fun Dad, un-fun Dad
He's a real cad, Un-fun Dad"
I also suggest playing it through the first time with the original heros (don't use Blackbird, Iron Ox, or Super Collider either. They don't really add to the story and Super Collider is way too powerful).
Then, if you want, go through with modded heroes or download the DC comics mod (which was quite frustrating I might add, but decently good), or hell make your own senarios and play them.
