I don't understand it...why not focus on one of the coolest DC Characters' origin like Batman Begins? I don't like the sounds of it, but I'll see it because he is my second favorite character of all time. Oh, and it looks like he won't have his Bow and Arrow, so how exactly will he be Green Arrow??? Oh, here's the link:

What a shame--they could have done a great "Green Arrow Begins"--like you suggested. Does it seem to you that movie folks are rushing to make a comic book movie while it is the "hot" thing to do, regardless of the script or casting or if it is just plain wrong for the character--the reason anyone would care about the movie in the first place!:disappoin
I want to know how they will appear to the non-comic book community? you first have to introduce and present the origin of the character. I think it a real shame to mees up any possibility of making GA step right into the ranks, popularity wise, of Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman outside of comic book fans.
So....doing a film version of Prison Break.....Geez what a bunch of carp....I see direct to video on this...No comic fan will take this movie serious....
I preface this post by noting that Green Arrow is my all-time favorite Superhero.
That being said, I'm not so shocked and dismayed by this. Firstly I'm tired of comic book movies being 120 minute long origin stories. We all know the origin of the big heroes, and really any heroes origin can be told effectively in a few minutes, or two pages of a comic book. There is no character so complex you need 120 minutes to tell why he's what he is. Even Batman (except if, for some insane reason you wanted to explain Hawkman's history in a film.. though that's not possible...).
Secondly it might be a great movie, you don't need Green Arrow running around in costume to make is a great GA movie. Oliver Queen is a great character whether or not he's the Green Arrow or himself, he's not one of the characters who take on a different persona when they get into (or out of) costume. He's always Ollie, sometimes he just wears a mask and most people don't know that he's Ollie underneath.
Third, I'm glad to see that someone's looking into a little more non-traditional way of using comic superheroes.
Fourthly, you know he'll fashion some sort of prison bow and be shooting plenty of arrows.
Finally this movie is a long ways off and there's a pretty good chance it'll never actually happen, look at the flash, Goyer was working on that for quite a while and it fell through, so I'll believe this movie exists when I see a trailer.
Bring on the hate, I know its coming. I just don't like damning something so far out. Now, if Michael Bay or Brent Ratner are ever attached to this film I may well jump off a bridge.
I'm with Ineptbeerman on this. While I loved Batman Begins, I'm bored to tears with comic book cinema's reliance on the origin story. I, for one, think it's pretty cool the filmmakers are brave enough to start the story in media res without having to show us the trials and tribulations of lil' Ollie for two hours.
I'm also a tremendous fan of B- and C-list characters, so that part has me sold, too.
Regardless, I'm not going to condemn the project from a paragraph long blurb I read on a message board. It's way too early. Until they tell me Brett Ratner's doing the directing job, color me interested.
I don't see what all the fuss is about. All the article said was "Goyer sold the studio on an idea that focused on the more villainous side of the DC Universe." It doesn't say that the studio gave the green light to a film, let alone a screenplay.
As for me, I think origins are the most compelling aspect of any superhero.
This is an outbreak of PJD (poor judgement disease), whcih afflicts many filmmakers.
It is the cinematic equivalent to deciding to make an Omelet, but instead of making it from eggs, deciding to make it from Lettuce, and instead of filling it with Ham and Cheese, using Flan and Cherry-flavored toothpaste.
The shortest distance between two points is the gap between the minimum requirement and not-good-enough.

perhaps the thinking is since green arrow has been a big part of smallville this year that non comic fans will already be interested in the character. GA is percieved as a bad guy by the general populace on smallville. setting him up to be wrongly accused, etc...
I have to echo the "sick and flipping tired of origin stories" sentiment. He is a rich guy who shoots a bow and arrow, let's get the action. As others have said, I am sure he will end up with a bow and arrow at some point, most likely during the climactic prison riot where he has to keep the prison from being destroyed and thus proves himself to be the hero and gets a full pardon.
One of the things I am psyched as heck about is the fact that there will be multiple villains. The only thing I am more sick of than the origin story is the fact that every single villain is somehow tied intimiately to the main character which supposedly provides greater suspense than just an evil dude, and then dies in the climactic battle so we can have a fresh villain next time (Sandman's story in Spiderman 3 is the stupidest idea ever). Now we will have multiple guys who are just your average super criminals and Ollie will get to have butt kicking fights with a bunch of them.
I don't understand why people actually want the most formulaic movie possible? This is the only proposed movie I have seen for Green Arrow, and with this idea he will get to the silver screen sooner and if people like him they will most likely make more movies with him.
I can't say I really object to what's being proposed, though I do wonder how well they're going to be able to sell this to the non-comics community.
My biggest concern is Goyer, who's developed a niche for himself as a comics-to-film guy. As I think back over the three BLADE movies, seeing him gain more creative control with each one and the results being decreasingly defensible - it was necessary to switch off most thought processes to get through BLADE TRINITY - I'm mainly concerned that he's attached to the project.
