I'm really wanting to using the Dark Knight CD Unique but I've read on the realms that he is not really the best for his points. Well, he begs for about a million feats...
Force Field
Nanobots
Protected
Heightened reflexes
Stunning Blow
Contingency Plan
Armor Piercing
...to name a few. What combination of feats would make him a legitimate beast by any standard?
I wouldn't trust every opinion on every character you get here at the Realms. They're just opinions and I've noticed they're usually as accurate as often as they're not. I would suggest trying the figure out a few times. The first time, play him straight or with just minimal cardboard. Learn from it. Figure out where his weaknesses are and add cardboard and support pieces as needed. Repeat process until you feel you've got it right.

My initial thought was that his defenses were a little lacking but that he is very versatile offensively so feats like force field, heightened reflexes and nanobots would work well.

I like the Dark Knight and have had some pretty solid success with him.
I wouldn't waste points on all those feats - instead, I think "Sneak" is perfect and keeps him at a lean 105 points.
This lets him move anywhere he wants on the board. Let him be your secondary attacker and send him behind enemy lines to wreck havoc. And when he gets tagged for enough damage, he gets Stealth back and can sneak back to your side for healing or protection.
Visible Dials and Pushing Damage need to be optional. This is the way.
i second sneak and maybe ICWO with Oracle. that way he has stealth busting outwit, extended range+armor piercing, flashbang, ambush, and definitly VAULT! suprisingly this feat is amazing for him, letting him hop around and tie up pieces that have trouble hitting him. i like playing him with the Man of Steel, have them next to each other when they are about dead and use mos's defend to make dark knight a formidible piece, even on his last clicks
