It is hindering for the rest of the game (Unless Damage Control is in play).

It stays for the rest of the game.

Thanks which means that a person I played last week was attempting to cheat by saying it disappear on his turn after he turned it into debris.

...or that is how he legitimately understood it to work and was saying what he thought the rule was.

That is the way Smoke Cloud works, so its possible it was simply a mistake. That's why we have rulebooks...

Gotta agree, it just sounds like a misunderstanding of the rule. I've played people who think that just because they destroy an object it should be removed from the game. They don't realize it's still an object, just now it mangled/destroyed and is still considered a hindering type of terrain.

Until about 2 months ago, I had the same misconception, and I have played the game for 3 years now.

I think the confusion is with Barriers. They can be destroyed and then they 'disappear' at the end of the turn.
