Open Tournament Call - IceHot 65 Team April Madness
Welcome to the 2008 IceHot 65-Team “quasi-March Madness” Team-Up Card Tournament.
This is an open call for anybody that would be interested in participating.
Players (if you are listed here you are already in): Bear42 - DRAFT ORDER roll: 11, tie breaker 8 Antipathy - DRAFT ORDER roll: 10, tie breaker 7 AbsolutVT69 - DRAFT ORDER roll: 9, tie breaker 12 IceHot - DRAFT ORDER roll: 8, tie breaker 8 Peers - DRAFT ORDER roll: 5, tie breaker 8 JHHump - DRAFT ORDER roll: 5, tie breaker 6 The Vision - DRAFT ORDER roll: 4, tie breaker 7 Larry-Boy - DRAFT ORDER roll: 4, tie breaker 6
The Tournament Format (up for discussion):
Prelim “Pig-Tail” and Round 1 - will be 400 points
Round 2 - will be 425
Sweet 16 - will be 450
Elite 8 - will be 475
Final 4 – will be 500
Finals – will be 550
(I have at least 7 different ideas on progressive point structures – let me know which you prefer).
BFCs for each round will be 2 dealt randomly to each team. You may use 0, 1 or 2 BFCs from the ones you were dealt in addition you may use BFCs provided by your Theme Team card. However once you use a BFC if it is randomly dealt in a subsequent round then it will be treated as a place holder.
Teams will be composed of core members found on the team card and reserve memembers also found on the team card. You may also add any member found on the “Also Available” list although they will not count as core or reserve members for the card cost discount. “Also Available” members will be based on figures that are not on any team that was actively in the field at the start of the current round (65-teams, 64-teams, 32-teams, 16-teams, and so on). As more teams are eliminated more figures will find there way onto the “Also Available” list. I will take suggestions and reasonable recommendations for the “Also Available” list.
(Any other recommendations go here)
We now have the final field of 65 and they have been selected and seeded:

This is an open call for anybody that would be interested in participating. We only ask that you meet the following criteria:
You are willing to play within the team framework given
(Each team is composed of a preselected set of core team members; as well some additional options may exist based on comic book theme. Some members may not be available as they me be core members on another team. The key here is being flexible enough to follow the intent of the team-ups). There should tsill be plenty of room for individual creativity.
You are willing to play for fun first.
(The central element is fun first. It really doesn’t matter who wins even though you can expect to have some challenging matches. You might start with 10 teams and then you might be asked to give one (of your choice) away to another players just to keep the tournament exciting and keep it moving. After all it wouldn’t do much good to end up with two of your own teams playing each other – what fun would that be?)
You are willing to play with the Team-Up Cards that I have created.
(Input and dialogue is always welcome even if you aren’t directly involved in the match)
You are willing to play with a few House Rules listed below.
(The Team-Up cards were originally designed with a few House Rules in mind)
You are semi-skilled in playing HeroClix
(You don’t have to be that good. I’m not that good. We just want you to be cable of fielding a fun and exciting match. If you have only played one or two times before you might want to sit this one out. 3 matches under your belt would be fine.)
House Rules:
Fun First
No Sets Retired
New Fantastic Four Rules
No Theme team bonuses other then the bonuses on the Team-Up cards. (The cards were initially invented long before WK came out with their theme team rules. The theme team PC would unbalance them as would BFC cancelling.)
Map selection will be random
Use thematic sense when considering “Highlander” type duplication (With the theme team card rules this rule is really unnecessary)
No attacks on the first turn (this allows the board to develop)
VPs will be scored for surviving figures and KOed figures. Most VPs win the match (some of the cards award extra VPs for certain things and they are based on this principle of VP scoring)
Feats assigned by the Theme Team Card don't count against the 10% cap.
Wildcard TAs may NOT cross Universes (In most cases this wont even matter)
Feats that are on when Damage is Dealt remain on throughout the action (In other words, if you must use Protected you need to decide before rolling Impervious. After all this should be about the teams not about un-thematic Power feats.)

Gotta admit, I'm still not sure what the heck you're doing... but I'm interested.
Well basically we are just going to have some FUN playing clix, and your more then welcome to join us.
The basic premise for me started a long while ago, when I decide to put each and every HeroClix (persona) on their own team, so each figure was on one team and only one team. Then basically my friends and I would draft teams and play games.
Its expanded a lot since then, I know have 110-teams that are fairly comic-centric. One of the other things I did along the way was create some Team-Up cards to help balance out the teams to make them somewhat more competive.
This evolved quite a bit over the years, including some testing I did at my venue with my players that included grab-bag events, and card optional events that balanced the teams pretty evenly with standard constructed teams. At one point I was using the cards to help introduce the new BFC and Feat mechanics to my players.
Basically though now the cards evolved into something where they can be a basis for a thematic team providing a thematic bonus or a half-a-scenario within a game, but still allow a guest star so to speak that isnt even listed on the card just by taking a small penalty. Also they dont pigeon hole the opponent into playing along with your scenario.
Along the way as I travelled to some HeroClix events a lot of players have gotten copies of the cards and have tweaked them to fit their own play group style. From which I have gotten a lot of feedback and done my bets to keep the cards playtest and balanced.
In doing so, my play group has played online and in-person and narrowed the 110-teams I have down to 65. Which makes up a field just like the NCAA-BBall field.
So let's have a cool tournament of the 65-teams and have some fun and see how it all turns out.
I am getting everything organized right now, but you can join us if you want.

Draft order = 9 (3,6)
Tie-Breaker = 12 (6,6) and now I'm doomed to roll horrible from here on out.
I've also uploaded images of the brackets that were sent to me. I had to change them to PNG files so that they would come in under 100KB but they should work for most image viewers.
Here are my rolls:
Roll #1: 6,2 = 8
Tiebreaker = 5,3 = 8
(using EvilDM.net dice server)

Bear is on Vacation until Monday so I went ahead and rolled for him:
Roll #1: 5,6 = 11
Tiebreaker roll: 3,5 = 8
Its looking like Gary will get the first pick anyway.....
