side deck is 10 cards that you leave out of your deck to switch in between rounds to help the match up. These cards are set for the tourney just like your deck.
I don't know what riffle shuffling is, but it could be YGO shuffling (taking the middle of your deck, and putting it on top repeatedly. Which doesn't actually shuffle)

More specifically about the side deck, you can only put those cards into your deck after the first game in a match. You also have to take a card out of your deck for each one you put in while using your side deck. After the match, you must restore your deck to its original state. Take a look at page 24 in the rulebook for sidedeck rules.
Think about how you normally shuffle a regular deck of cards (for poker or some other game). That's riffle shuffling. The point is, it bends the cards and will damage them. They don't want you doing that to other people's cards since you're playing with your opponents in the first game.
For some reason it wont let me post my own forum yet, i also have some questions.
1. Can a hero be attacked directly even with allies not exausted?
2. When attacking its based on attack vs heath, both ways does the attacker only get attacked back it they are melee hitting melee? or can a melee attack a allie using holy and still be hit back? i already know that if a ranged ally hits someone they wont get hit back. thanks for the replies
The reason why you can't post a new thread is as a new user you have to accumlate a certain amount of replies first before you can start a new thread. It's something we have in place to stop bots from spamming the boards with useless threads.
To answer your questions though:
1. Yes, you can attack a player's hero at anytime during the turn, even if they had 100 allies in play, you could still attack their hero if you so elect (although if they had 100 allies I'm sure the games long been over, :P).
2. (This is my understanding and I'm positive it's correct, but someone can correct me later if I'm wrong). When you attack a hero and that hero has a melee weapon then for that hero to strike back they still have to pay the cost to swing back with that weapon. The cost to attack with a melee weapon is indicated on the lower right hand corner of the melee weapon card.
ok was wondering about the weapon cost to use :P thank you, but If I have a melee ally, and I attack a fire ally, would the melee ally take damage. that was what i was sorda asking. i know if I have a ranged ally and he attacks anything.. he wont get hit in return, but if a melee attacker attacks a melee attacker they take damage.
tryin to think of a way to state it better sorda hard
Say if Halnar Stands-Alone was to attack Panax the Unstable being Panax is arcane and not melee... woule halnar take damage in return?
"Mashing" is a good alternative to riffling, although only works with sleeves. It basically consists of seperating the cards into two piles and pushing them together. With loose hands you get enough seperation of cards such that you don't damage the edges of the sleeves.
there are 2 cards that have long range that I know of Dwarven Hand Cannon and Ancient Bone Bow, the icon for the attack is what threw me off. Being other allies had the bow attack icon like those weapons... I thought they might have the same attack type. I guess that is just showing they are ranged, not long ranged. Thanks for the help
allies have a damage type purely for cards that refer to those types (melee, nature, arcane, etc), the ranged allied damage type isnt the same as long-ranged the ability.
