not to stir up an old hornets nest, but as i was finally getting the chance to look at some of the new characters last night online (have a computer at home that works now) my question is.....
one of them has the power to perplex normally or perplex the same combat value of any character within 6 squares of them........(i think its calculator, but i am not sure and work blocks wizkids site).
i am assuming due to how doom joker mordru and everyones power works he needs line of fire as well, but it was bothering me because as i was thinking about it i remember professor x's perplex from MM.
his says CEREBRO: Professor X can use Perplex. When Professor X uses Perplex, he can use it normally or choose a single keyword and affect every target friendly character 10 or fewer squares from Professor X that possesses that keyword (including himself, if he possesses the keyword) and to which Professor X has a clear line of fire.
so since his says characters (the other character) and not target (mind you i can't look at it so flying blind here a bit) does that mean he can perplex without line of fire?

When Prof X uses Perplex he can use it normally (which requires LOF) or he can use it the other way - which specifies that whomever he perplexes he must have a LOF to.
I think the question may have been referring to whether Calculator needs LoF to use his super-Perplex, not Prof X.
More generally: if a character "can use Perplex" in some modified fashion, is it always assumed that line of fire is required EVEN IF IT ISN'T SPECIFIED.

thanks for clarifying which one i was specifying crow ;-)
but it just makes me wonder because
A) professor's says Target (specifying he must have LoF)
B) it says and to which Professor X has a clear line of fire.
now that being said i am just running the gamet of senarios because i also remember this discussion coming up when discussing the outwit capabilities with yellowjacket and the like.

Calculator can use Perplex. He can use it normally, or he can modify the same combat value (except damage) of all friendly characters 6 or fewer squares away by +1 or -1 until the beginning of your next turn.
I would still say Calculator needs LOF. The special power is listing out the exceptions to using Perplex normally. If he didn't need LOF, it would be legitimate to ask "can he only modify combat values once per turn" since it doesn't say so. You could argue that the modification does not go away when the target takes damage, because again, that's something that listed for Perplex that isn't listed in the special power.
General rule - the special powers are only listing the differences from normal usage.
And yes, that makes the bit about LOF on Professor X's Cerebro redundantly extraneous.

Quoted for accuracy. When you use any power on the PAC, it is used within the normal rules unless specifically stated. If the SP on Calculator doesn't say that no LoF is required, which it doesn't, then LoF is required as per Perplex rules.

yeah guys i realize its kinda a given, BUT because of the MASSIVE outwit discussions, i figured between the professor's saying target and needing LoF (which he would because it says TARGET anyway), and then the discussion of YellowJacket saying Characters aren't targets so you could do it, BUT his says you needs LOF. So it begged the question in my brain.
and you have to admit it would make sense he wouldn't need it because he is on the radio to each of the people he is trying to be in contact with, thought IMO by that logic .....UMMMMM WHY WOULDN"T THE PROFESSOR BE ABLE TO, TO ANYONE ON THE BOARD NO MATTER WHERE THEY WERE....LOL
