I was always under the impression you could flurry blades. Recently someone said you couldn't. Is this true? And if so, what was the appeal of Spiral way back when?
Yup, just to back up Crow with a little help from the PAC:
"Flurry Give this character a close combat action. It makes two separate close combat attacks as free actions (making two separate attack rolls) against one or two adjacent targets. Resolve the first attack before making the second. If this character loses Flurry before it makes the second attack, it can’t make the second attack."
"Blades/Claws/Fangs When this character is given a close combat action, roll a d6 after making a successful attack roll. The result replaces this character’s damage value when resolving the attack. If the target was blocking terrain, a wall, or an object, it is destroyed on a result of 3–6."

Just to make sure I didn't go crazy or anything:

CHARGE Give this character a power action; halve its speed value for the action. Move this character up to its replacement speed value and then give it a close combat action as a free action. A character with this power ignores knock back.
So then you would be able to Charge into Flurry (for those figs with that combo as a SP), then B/F/C each Flurry attack, no?
So am I to understand that the use of the word "When" on the definition for blades/claws is the key to this combo? As if it said "Give" in place of "When" then you would not be allowed to combo.

Well, not just the word itself, but the phrasing of each power. You "give this character a close combat action" to activate Flurry and since that's "when this character is given a close combat action", you can use Blades/Claws/Fangs.
And I really wish people would stop pushing any compatibility list. Understanding how and why it works is so much better than consulting a list every time someone takes an action involving multiple powers.
And if so, would I then need to use another power that involves giving a fig a close combat action in order to use the power? Seems like this is worded badly. I understand the above points but I think the power should be worded something to the extent of "When this character makes a close combat attack..." as then it would work with flurry since it gives you 2 close combat ATTACKS, and then there would be no confusion over whether the power B/C/F gives the figure a close combat action.

I kinda would like a compatibility list on some things. I agree most of it can be figured out by reading the pac, but I still have lots of people trying to runshot/leap climb, and so on, and sometimes the pac is worded in an unnecessarily odd manner. If I was reading this over I would initially think that B/C/F involves giving the character a action, and thus I wouldnt have thought you could use flurry also.

I think it's the phrase "close combat action" and not "close combat attack", that allows it. But I've never taunted myself as a rules lawyer.

The problem with that is that "close combat attack" and "close combat action" are specifically two separate things - otherwise, you would be able to B/C/F on a Hypersonic Speed attack, which only grants a "close combat attack" specifically to prevent certain abusive combinations.
