I'm going under that assumption that my above answers may be disputed...probably by the time I get this typed up.
Anyway, allow me to explain...

Anyway, the point is that Giant Size does not create any kind of adjacency other than the normal adjacency which would exist with a character immediately next to its base on the same elevation.
What it does it to allow close combat attacks to be made on the higher elevation and 2 squares away. Additionally, these attacks are specifically against characters, so you can't even use close combat to destory an object 2 away or on a higher elevation.
A grounded giant and an elevated figure in the next square are not adjacent for any purpose...Poison, range, Energy Explosion, break away, etc.
(What I now see is that it does not say that an elevated figure and make a close combat attack against a grounded giant. I'll ask about that on WK)
