when is knockback damage added in? lets say you have toughness and get hit for 3.
Would it be, take 2 damage (3 dmg -1 toughness = 2) go back 2 and hit hindering terrain and then take an additional one? Assuming you no longer have toughness after taking the first hit

when u get hit for 3 u take damage minus any damage reducers.
Then if u get knocked back into blocking terrain u take 1 unless u have a DR
If knocked off a building u take 2 unless DR
You do not take damage for hitting hindering terrain.
My opponent said that White Powers grant the use of these powers, but does not grant them these powers. Herc has the USE of Charge, but does not actually possess the ability.
So my opponent had Herc on his 5 clix that has standard Charge. I hit for 6 rolling doubles and put him on his last click which has CR. Does Herc have the option to take knock back?

No. If he has Charge when he is hit, he does not take knockback.
I didn't go to Harvard or Yale but I can kick a man in the crotch as well as any other.

No - the aspect of CR that allows the character to choose KB must be showing at the time of the attack - before damage is taken. If he takes KB and then hits a wall, he will take KB damage UNLESS CR is still showing at the time the KB damage is dealt.
Step by step:
1. Sean attacks Mike using a triple ranged attacker. Mike's three figures are: Figure A - has Combat Reflexes showing now. Figure B - has Combat Reflexes showing now. Figure C - does not have Combat Reflexes showing.
2. Sean rolls to attack Mike and succeeds (no doubles). Sean says "I will distribute the damage as follows (2 to A, 2 to B, and 2 to C)..." Mike says "Both A and B will use their Combat Reflexes to take KB. (Caveat: I may be wrong on the timing of this - Mike may need to declare before Sean assigns damage - but I don't have time to type all this up and leave the office when I'm supposed to, so I'll have to come back later)
3a. Figure A takes 2 clicks of damage and is still showing CR. The figure moves back 2 squares. It hits a wall. He would be dealt another click of damage but, since CR is there, the damage is ignored.
3b. Figure B takes 2 clicks of damage and now, is no longer showing CR. The figure moves back 2 squares, hits wall, and is dealt 1 more damage from the KB into the wall.
3c. Figure C takes 2 damage and now is showing CR. He does not move at all since the attack itself was not doubles. If the attack were doubles: then he would have to move back 2 squares (as would figures A and B - CR lets you choose to take KB whenever, but it doesn't let you ignore it) and he would ignore the damage from hitting the wall since he now has CR.

Thoughts?

Actually, granting the use of the power and possessing the power makes no difference in this specific instance. If you can use Charge, then you can use every aspect of the power, including the immunity to KB.
For CR, I've always though that both the KB and KB damage aspects of the power came into play only if CR was showing after the damage from an attack is applied and the power is showing on the target's/targets' dial.

I've lost my copy of the FF4 starter rule book. Is there something in there to back this up?
