Hey guys, in another thread there was a person who was talking about a person at their venue who printed out copies of the dials for their figures and referred to them during the game.
I've always thought this was bad form and I would obviously frown on anyone who did it, but one of the people in the thread said that it was actually against the rules.
My question is this:
Is it against the rules to have printed copies of your character's dials during the game?
If it's not legal can you point me to where it discusses it in the rules?
Page 5 of the FF rules under Step 5: Placing Characters states that once the characters are placed, you cannot turn the dials unless directed to do so by a game effect. It specifically bans looking back or ahead on the dial, which is what a dial print-out does.
Quote
After objects have been placed, each player turns the combat dial of each
of his or her characters until a vertical green line appears to the left of
the numbers visible in the stat slot; this is the character’s starting position.
After a character’s combat dial has been turned to its starting position,
players can turn the dial only when directed to do so by a game effect,
such as taking damage or healing. You can’t turn the combat dial to look
ahead or back on the dial during a game.
But...Nightcrawler really has been my favorite character for years.
In addition to what BigDaddyHub quoted:
"All information part of a HeroClix tournament once it begins is public information, except information on any dial not visible in the current slot, and any information specifically indicated as non-public by game rules, tournament rules, or in-game abilities."
(from the Comprehensive Tournament Rules - "1.5.5. Information" section)
and along with whats in the recent rule book, in a friendly non company sanctioned game You and your opponent decides how the 2 of you will play.
In a sanctioned event there isn't any circumventing of the rules or guidlines. And if a judge "rules" in favor of something that is blatently incorrect, have your rules/errata's/tournament guides there to point it out. I have found that most formal and normal venues will either have wifi or a computer there so you can "dig up" a ruling.
along with the next set, I'm looking forward to the direction the new company takes in clarifying situations like this.
Really do be, or really do be do. There is no try
