it doesn't make any sense to me. if somone is in the square with it you can deal them one penetrating damage. Basically why would you ever pick it up or hide in it? is that what this object is meant to be?

help me understand?

"A character occupying the same squares as this object can be dealt 1 pushing damage as a free action."

Yep, park somebody on the booth, give em a free action and they take a click.

Why?

Its faster than pushing to get past activation clicks, and next turn you could charge, pick it up and smash somebody with it.

Its very dual purpose.

Notice though, you must give a free action to take the damage.

First off, there has been a correction on the wording

TELEPHONE BOOTH
• This special object should read “Once per turn, a character occupying the same square as this object can be dealt 1 unavoidable damage as a free action.”

Basically, when YOUR character occupies the same square as this object YOU can give YOUR character a click of damage. You cannot make an opponent's fig take the damage

Why? Many characters have what has been called 'an activation click' where they are their normal, puny self (i.e. Hulk is Banner, Captain Marvel is Billy) This object allows to get them to their better clicks without taking 3 turns (action, action, push, clear)
